Has a learning curve, and can easily frustrate 15 de noviembre de 2010
I have spent many hours washing and waxing my cars. So when I had a chance to purchase this buffer at half price, I thought I would give it a try.
One should not expect to be a pro with this right out of the box. The buffer does have a learning curve. It takes some time to figure out how much wax to use. You quickly understand not to turn the buffer one while it is off the automobile surface. The biggest hurdle is figuring out what to with the power cord. The cord has a velco strap holder to keep the pig tail cord, and the extension cord together. The first time I tried to figure it out it kept coming undone several times, and left me frustrated. After a few more attempts, I got it to work. The hardest part is keeping it on your shoulder. Getting the pads on is hard, but once it's on, you are happy that it has a snug fit.
Th bucket is great, altought mine cracked, but is still usable.
In the end, the buffer saves my shoulder and some time, but I am still trying to perfect my technique. I can't give this buffer five stars because I can't by the pads at Sears. This is a big downer, because now I don't have a good reason to go to Sears.

The 10 in. buffer/polisher comes in a great all-in-one storage bucket with two bonnets each: applicator bonnet, terry cloth bonnet, buffing bonnet, and a hand applicator sponge. An excellent value, if only it worked for what it was intended. The motor on the buffer is not powerful enough to polish or buff, let alone try to apply wax on any type of surface. When you apply any pressure on the buffer, the pad literally stops orbiting and/or turning in a circular motion as intended. The buffer/polisher is thus rendered useless when attempting to apply wax or cleaner on autos, counters, floors or wood furniture because a 1 hour job turns into a 3-4 hour job when you cannot apply pressure during application or removal of wax, cleaner, or buffing solutions.
Therefore, I cannot recommend this item to any person interested in buffing or polishing cars, counters, furniture, or floors.

Great valueI had a Craftsman buffer polisher for years that I used and abused until it finally started making soo much noise that I had to wear ear plugs to use it. I trashed it and started looking for a replacement, a deal too good to pass up. I wanted quality at a fair price as we all do. Nobody I researched came up with a better buffer polisher than this Craftsman 10". The quietness of it is amazing compared to my old unit. No need to even turn up the radio while I'm working. The motor has has to have more hp than my last one because it is even faster. Of course the 2" bigger pad could be the reason. The redesigned handle gives you the option to hold on in various positions as needed to polish different auto body side shapes. My old unit only had 2 grabbing positions meaning your body would have to do more twisting and bending. I was having so much fun that after my car was done, I did my visiting daughter's Escape, took 20 minutes, and offered to do my neighbor's car. Some people think that it's hard to learn, but all you have to do with this buffer polisher is let IT do the work. The cord has been criticized, and it is short, but my last one didn't even have a cord, just a plug in, which the extension cord would vibrate off. My final thought is that I realized, after I bought this new buffer, that Craftsman has replacement parts available to repair broken tools. But I'm not sorry though, this is a great buffer polisher.

I am 63 years old and my whole life I have had several new cars, many of them black. I am a fanatic about keeping my cars clean and waxed. Over the years I have had 3 of these orbital 10" buffers and the last one finally quit working. I know from experience, at least with the three I have had in the past, that they do stop spinning when not much pressure is applied. I have always thought that it would be nice if I could find one that would not stop spinning so easily because that would allow me to work faster. That was my goal when shopping for a car buffer this time around and decided that in this quest, price would not be a factor. I purchased the Craftsman for the reason that it had the highest rated amperage of all the ones I looked at with 1.1 amps. The others ranged from .82 to .95 amps. I decided to go with the highest amp rating in hopes that it was a measure of working strength which would equate to being able to spin with more pressure applied. WOW, I figured right. This buffer is amazing. With any other buffer I have had, when spinning I could place the palm of my hand on the pad and with not too much pressure stop it from spinning. I am told this attribute is important for non-professional detailers so the paint is not accidently burned. However, the buffers I have had in the past stop spinning sooo easily that wax application and removal can hardly be done. Just the weight of the machine is sometimes enough to stop the spinning which does get frustrating. I have always thought it would be nice to have a heavier duty buffer without having to use a professional machine that I may burn the paint with. As soon as I got this one home I gave it the palm test. I was elated that I could not apply enough pressure to get it to even slow down; that is, if I did not want to risk tearing my skin off. This is a keeper. Any other complaint is secondary to the mission of buffing. The additional spinning power and pressure I will be able to apply using this orbital buffer is going to make the job go much faster. As far as some of the other reviews I have read, a longer buffer cord is not necessary to be on the unit. All the buffers I have had in the past and all but one I found on the market this time have pig-tail cords. The reason is that the cord is to be hung over the shoulder and realistically at least a 25' cord is going to be needed. I plug my buffer into a 50' orange shop cord so I have plenty of length to get the job done without running out of cord. A buffer with a 6' cord is still going to require a heavy duty extension cord. This buffer is a little heavier than the previous ones I have had but that is because it is well built and definitely has a stronger motor. I gladly trade a bit of weight for these two attributes. This buffer is definitely quieter and vibrates in the hand much less than the others I have had. This Craftsman buffer was by far the most expensive of its type but is well worth it. The Sears store where I purchased this buffer did sell all of the various bonnets. This is a 10" buffer so any 10" bonnet from any other store will fit. I have finally found an elliptical/orbital car buffer that will not stop spinning at the slightest touch. $ well spent!
