Parts and Accessories to Keep Your Refrigerator Running
There is a wide variety of refrigerator parts and accessories available on the market today to help keep a refrigerator running smoothly and efficiently. Whether it is replacement parts to fix your appliance that you need or you just want to expand the function or looks of the refrigerator, Sears offers a range of products from brands you can trust, such as Kenmore, Frigidaire, GE and Whirlpool.
Refrigerators that are equipped with automatic ice makers will need a water filter system to reduce unpleasant chlorine tastes and odors. These filters will also remove toxaphene, lead, cysts, asbestos, mercury, turbidity, herbicides, pesticides, lindane, atrazine and other particulates. While a filter will improve the taste, clarity and odor of the water, it will not reduce the amount of fluoride that is in city tap water.
The best thing about a water filter system is that it does not take up valuable space inside the refrigerator because it is installed in the base grille on the front of the appliance. It also helps conserve energy, making your Energy Star appliance even more environmentally friendly. When purchasing a water filter, you will want to look for a product that has been tested and certified by the National Sanitation Foundation International (NSF), the leading global provider of public health and safety risk management solutions.
Replacement water filters are also available. Most filters will need to be replaced every six to twelve months depending on the type of filter, how many gallons it is rated for and how often it is used.
In order for an ice maker to work, a waterline hose will need to be connected from the appliance to the cold water plumbing system, usually under the kitchen sink. Look for a product that is lead free and made from durable material, such as braided PVC or copper tubing. Plastic hoses, particularly clear vinyl, will reduce water quality and are prone to puncture damage that will result in breakage and leakage. The connection will also require a T-valve that attaches to the sink line and the ice maker supply line, as well as a sleeve and compression nut to ensure the line is tightly connected. Full waterline installation kits can be purchased for quick and easy connections.
To keep the refrigerator running efficiently, you will need an effective cleaner to get rid of food spills, dirt and rust. These heavy-duty cleaning products contain mild abrasives that are safe to use on stainless steel, copper, porcelain, tile and fiberglass.
Optional, add-on trim kits are also available to improve the visual appeal of a refrigerator. For a customized look, panels, grilles and collars can be replaced in a choice of colors and materials. Kits are also available to provide a built-in look without the high cost typically associated with custom work.
