Car Batteries 101: What is a VRLA Battery?

A valve-regulated lead acid battery  (VRLA battery) is a car battery that uses safety valves to hold pressure from gases that build up in its battery box. These batteries reduce fluids created by gases inside from leaking out of its box. Both gel cell batteries and absorbed glass mat batteries are the two most regularly available VRLA batteries.

Benefits of a VRLA Battery

  • These batteries prevent excessive leaking of fluids to maintain a longer life.
  • Water level doesn't need to be topped off and requires little to no maintenance.
  • The lifespan, on average, is longer than most other vehicle batteries.
