What is a Class 1 Hitch?

A class 1 hitch is a trailer hitch used to haul small recreational vehicles or equipment. This type of hitch is suited for almost any vehicle and can be attached to a vehicle frame, car bumper or truck pan. A class 1 hitch should be used to carry items such as cargo boxes and bike racks and isn't capable of towing large equipment like boats, trailers or campers.

  • Carries a gross trailer weight of up to 2,000 pounds
  • Handles a tongue weight of up to 200 pounds
  • Used typically on compact cars, standard passenger vehiclesand light SUVs and pickup trucks
