What is a Class 2 Hitch?

A class 2 hitch is a trailer hitch best suited for light-duty towing and hauling recreational equipment. This class hitch usually has a receiver opening of approximately 1 ΒΌ inches and should only be attached to a vehicle's frame or bumper. A class 2 hitch can handle the same items a class 1 hitch tows, but it's able to carry slightly heavier equipment like motorcycles, ATVs or small boats and trailers.

Class 2 hitch rating

  • Handles a gross trailer weight of up to 3,500 pounds
  • Carries a tongue weight of up to 350 pounds
  • Attaches to passenger vehicles, vans, SUVs and light or heavy duty pickup trucks
