While every body type and type of injury is going to require specialized treatment, there are a few things you can do in nearly any situation to expedite your healing time. One of the most important things you can do to recover is to identify the source of your injury. While the cause of sprains, pulls and breaks will be more apparent, sometimes injuries are the result of improper technique or form over time. Working with a physical therapist or personal trainer to target the source, restore motion and practice more preventative measures will help prevent further delays and repeat injuries.


Stay on Your Diet

The most common thing you’ll likely hear from your trainer through this period is to stick with your diet. Even though you won’t be able to play in the game next week, breaking your diet may make it more difficult to get back into gear once you’re all healed up. Your trainer may also suggest a temporary diet that includes supplements to speed up your recovery time.

Try Therapy

While you’re recovering, staying busy with specialized therapies can help. Here are three helpful activities you can do from the comfort of home.

  • RICE - Also known as Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. This therapy is practiced by sports therapists and trainers everywhere to help reduce pain and swelling for athletes with sprains and strains.
  • Inversion - For those with lower back pain, including an inversion therapy table in your daily recovery routine can be beneficial. These tables use gravity to open up your back and increase circulation to your body.
  • Massage - Massages like Swedish, trigger point, deep tissue and sports massage are known to help revitalize your muscles and speed up recovery times. Plus, it’s always good to relax and treat yourself every once in a while.
