What are Conflict-Free Diamonds?

Conflict-free diamonds are diamonds that are legally traded and ethically sourced. These precious stones are mined in accordance with stringent labor and environmental laws. Conflict-free diamonds are mined in regions that are free from any sort of civil unrest and they are not used to finance any rebel groups or anti-government organizations in war-torn countries.

The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme is a joint government, industry and civil society initiative designed to ensure that all shipments of rough diamonds are absolutely conflict-free. Participants under this scheme can only engage in legal trade with other participants who also adhere to this certification. Both the Kimberly Process and the U.S. Government's Clean Diamond Trade Act are designed to keep conflict stones out of the mainstream market.

Benefits of Conflict-Free Diamons

  • Conflict-free diamonds are legally mined and not used to finance militant activities.
  • These stones are not attached to any violent practices or human rights violations.
