What is a Docking Station?

A docking station is a device you can plug laptops, tablets and smart phones into to access hardware and computer accessories. A tablet or laptop is attached to the dock using the long connector, which is found on the back of most laptops. Since most portable devices come with only a few USB ports, a docking station lets you plug in a bunch of hardware at once. Peripherals like printers, keyboards, mice and external hard drives work in sync with your laptop or tablet through the dock. Some docking stations also help charge your devices, so you can get maximum usage.

Uses of a docking station

  • Connecting your device to computer accessories at home or the office is much easier
  • Providing an affordable alternative to a desktop computer
  • Charging your laptop, tablet or smartphone to extend battery its life
  • Expanding the screen on certain smartphone models
