How to Clean your TV Screen

After a few months out of the box, your television screen is going to be a bit dusty. Cleaning your TV screen takes just a few minutes, but you need to do it with care. Follow these few simple steps and your screen will quickly look like new again.

What you'll need:

  • Microfiber cloth. A microfiber cloth will be able to pick up a lot of dust without scratching your screen.
  • LCD/LED/Plasma screen cleaning solution (optional). If you want to use a cleaning solution, make sure to get something that is labeled as being safe for high-definition TVs. A standard glass cleaner will likely have ammonia, which can severely damage your screen's coating.

Step 1: Turn off your screen.

If the TV is on, you won't be able to see as much of the dust on it. With the screen dark, you'll be able to see all of the dusty spots easier.

Step 2: Wipe off the screen.

Take your microfiber cloth and methodically wipe down the screen. It's best to wipe up and down while moving from one side to the next. If all of the dust isn't coming off, do not press harder. Pressing harder can burn out pixels and damage your TV.

Step 3 (optional):

Use screen safe spray for stubborn particles. Should you encounter more stubborn dust or dirt, you can use your screen-safe spray. Spray the solution onto your cloth and not the screen. Spraying directly onto the screen may cause liquid to get inside the TV and damage it. Use only a minimal amount of spray and, again, only press gently on the screen to avoid damaging pixels.
