Be Prepared when Baby Starts Teething with Teethers from Sears

Each child begins teething in their own time; the process can begin as early as three months or as late as 15 months. While most people refer to them as baby teeth, the official term for this first set of teeth is primary teeth. Whenever this process begins for your infant, teethers will be a must for your household just as nursing pillows make things easier and more comfortable for both mom and baby when offering a bottle or breastfeeding your infant.

The most common teeth to come in first are the lower front teeth, although this varies from child to child. When tiny teeth are emerging, your baby may feel sensations of pain, pressure or general discomfort for three to five days before the tooth pokes through the gum. You may also notice that your baby drools more than normal. As each tooth emerges, this process will repeat. A baby's natural instinct when this happens is to chew on a hard object as this can feel soothing. You may notice your baby chewing on his or her fingers or toys; this is a signal that a tooth is probably coming. You'll want to be ready when this happens so you can feel prepared and not be stressed trying to react to your baby's discomfort on the fly.

Many teethers these days are designed to be put in the freezer. The cool temperature of a frozen teething ring helps to numb the surface of baby's gums, greatly easing any pain they may feel. The hard surface of a teether pressed against baby's gums can also encourage the tooth to break through the gum sooner, hastening the entire process and bringing relief more quickly. A teether's surface may be smooth or offer various textures and ridges that baby may find soothing. Teething blankets are also an option, which have not only a teether but help contain the drool that often occurs during the process and give baby something to grip that isn't too cold.

The whole purpose of having teeth is to chew food, which is why your pediatrician may recommend a change in baby's diet to introduce additional baby foods into your child's meal plan. Doctors may suggest small foods, such as baby cereal, which is often one of the first solid foods a baby will experience. As your child gains more teeth, additional foods for baby will be introduced, including meat, which has a much different texture than the fruits and vegetables baby may be used to eating.

Prepare yourself when your baby's first tooth comes in. Sears has you covered with a large selection of freezer-ready teethers and teething blankets, plus everything else your baby needs to be as happy and healthy as can be. Help them ease the pain by getting them soft and safe teethers during this sensitive part of their physical development.
