    I love having a generator April 14, 2010

    We lost our power for 4 days this winter, but the gererator saved us from moving to a hotel.  The Briggs and Stratton 5000 ran almost everything in our 3 bedroom house.  It couldn't handle the dryer when the well pump kicked on.  My only warning to anyone buying a generator is to be ready to pay at least another $700 to $1000 to have a transfer switch installed correctly.

    Briggs & Stratton 5000 Watt Portable Generator..... is LOUD! September 09, 2011

    Wow is that machine loud! I only have 5 hours on it... enough to break it in for the next 50 hours... It ran the fridge and other major appliances just fine. The toaster and coffe pot put more of a load on it than the fridge....Whether or not it had a "load" on it it ran at 3,600 rpm's. There is no governer or any other sort of no "load" idle on it. The manual claims 10 hrs for every 5 gal of gas at a half load which ain't so bad... I cannot attest to that. Perhaps when the engine is broken in. I gave it two stars because of the loudness and that it will not idle with no load on it! I'm not sure on how durable it will be when it come to letting it run in inclement weather either...

    The best generator I have ever owned! I ran a fridge, chest freezer, tv, internet, computers and lights. never even acted like it was under a load. I also got the 5 yr warranty and still was a great price!

    Pros:
    easy to run, convenient,Easy Start up,Easy to run

    After reading the reviews, I was concerned about extreme noise levels and weight.  For those concerned about the noise, it is similar to a riding lawnmower sitting, running, next to the house.  As far as the weight, with the handle and wheel system it is not that hard to move around.  I don't see any other way around the weight other than buying one that isn't big enough to do the job and the neighbors won't mind the noise when their food is sitting in your fridge or you are keeping their toes warm. (The noise really isn't that bad and it is what I expected) I did a practice run with this and it worked great.  Look at the convenient wattage chart Sears provides and be serious about what you really need to run.  This ran my furnace, lights, fridge, freezer, charged cell phones and ran a radio.  Probably could have done more, but this is what I need it to do.
