What to Wear for Date Night

by Jill Manoff

He finally asked, now—what to wear? We’ve put together the perfect look to complete your big date, whatever the plans. What’s more, we’ve spelled out the three style rules we think every dating girl should know. Check it out…

Date Night

-When it comes to your choice hair and makeup looks, remember: less is more. Skip up ‘dos and styles that require a lot product in favor of soft, touchable waves that just happen to smell amazing. As for makeup, keep it light and fresh (peachy hues are perfect!), rather than overly “done up.” Even if you spent hours getting ready, the goal is “effortless.”

-When it comes to jewelry, remember: less is more. Save the “arm candy,” the chandelier earrings and the major bib necklace for nights with the girls. When it’s just you and him, stick to delicate pieces—like a simple pendant necklace and diamond stud earrings.

-When it comes to showing skin, remember: less is more. You want a look that’s equal parts sexy, flirty and fun. The key? Don’t reveal too much; for example, pick an off-the-shoulder top, versus a style that reveals a lot of cleavage.

The First Date
We always add a casual piece to the mix to be sure we look and feel totally comfortable: We’ll wear our fave skinnies with a silk button-down, or a plain white tee with a slim pencil skirt. And we always complete the look with a great clutch and simple-sexy heels.

A Dinner Date
Not sure where he’s taking you? A little black dress works every time. (Trust us!)

A Casual Date
Hitting a pub or going to the game? Keep your look easy, but far from sloppy: Opt for a light, fitted sweater and a cute pair of jeans. If it’s chilly, top it all off with a moto jacket.

Meeting the Parents
Go for a look that’s simple, classic and a bit feminine. In spring and summer, you can’t go wrong with a white dress dotted with eyelets.
