Shopping for denim can be as daunting as swimsuit shopping—that is, unless you know what styles will work for you. We decided to save you hours in the fitting room by compiling a guide to your best cut, based on your body type. Get set to find the perfect pair!

Your Body Type: Apple (Round tummy)
Your Jeans: Go for a higher-rise style, with a waistband that sits right at your natural waistline—as it will mask much of your problem area. With stretch? Even better; it will work like a pair of Spanx to help pull you in. Finally, a straight-legged fit will provide balance—as opposed to skinnies and jeggings, which could make for a top-heavy look.

Your Body Type: Hourglass (Hips and shoulders are same width)
Your Jeans: A trouser-inspired style that fits loose in the legs will work wonders to flatter your slim waist. Want to flaunt your figure? Pick a skinny style. Whichever cut you choose, pick a waistband with a higher rise; it will stay put through sitting and bending—so you’ll never show off too much of your curves.

Your Body Type: Pear (Hips are wider than shoulders)
Your Jeans: Because you carry weight in your hips, rear and thighs, you should go for a style with a flare of any size; it will provide balance by drawing eyes down. Combined with a higher waistline? Perfect. They’ll provide a slimming (as they’ll hit at the smallest part of your lower half), legs-for-days look you’ll love.

Your Body Type: Rectangle (Minimal curves)
Your Jeans:
Anything goes. (Lucky you!) You could create curves with a bootcut or flared style—or opt to brave one of the new trends that can be tricky to pull off. We love the latest skinnies, with ultra-high waistlines. So chic!
