We Asked Him: What's Your Fave Women's Scent?

by Jill Manoff

Fruity, spicy, sweet, floral, classic, “celebrity”—the list goes on. These days, there are so many scents on the market, settling on just one can be a daunting task. So, we decided to narrow down your options—by pinpointing what he likes, by way of a little project. The plan? We’d conduct a poll with our favorite guys around the office. The result? A shopping guide of the hottest, must-try fragrances.

Carolina Herrera CH

The guy: Nic, 28, Visual Designer, In a Relationship

What he loves: Spicy

“Definitely not fruity; fruity is too ‘young.’ And floral can be ‘old.’ I usually like spicy, with some floral accents.”

A perfect pick: Carolina Herrera CH. Cinnamon and sandalwood mesh with citrus flowers and jasmine to make for a light, spicy scent that’s just a tad fruity, somewhat floral—altogether age-appropriate.

Selena Gomez by Selena Gomez

The guy: Sai, 33, DVP of Customer Analytics, Single

What he loves: Fruity

“I like a subtle fragrance, nothing too overwhelming. And I like fruity, but not floral. I grew up around a lot of jasmine, and now I definitely don’t like jasmine.”

A perfect pick: Selena Gomez. Top notes include peach, pineapple and sweet orange, and it finishes off with base notes of coconut, chocolate and rich amber. It’s altogether fresh, and doesn’t read floral—and we double-checked: There’s no jasmine in the mix.

Dolce & Gabbana The One

The guy: Tim, 28, UX Designer, Engaged

What he loves: Floral

“I like it to be light, and a little bit floral. Dolce & Gabbana The One is one of my favorites.”

A perfect pick: Dolce & Gabbana The One (of course!)—or cK One Shock For Her. Like the Dolce & Gabbana scent, it’s a sweet, oriental floral fragrance that warms into an amber-vanilla musk. As its top notes are flowers versus fruit, he actually might prefer it!
