What's New in Shoes: Spring 2014 Trends

by Jill Manoff

Shoe lovers, rejoice! The new spring shoes are finally inching into stores—and they include styles and colors you’ve never slipped into before. Excited to refresh your rotation for the season? Start by adding these trends to your collection.

Exposed Zippers
The latest take on ever-chic hardware? Exposed zippers—in silver, gunmetal and gold. We’re seeing them on dresses, on skinnies, both functional and fanciful—and we love how they pair with studs, spikes and bold chains. Love the look? Consider a zippered accessory—like a pair of black heels you’ll wear every which way.

Color Blocking
Indeed, shoes can make an outfit—especially when talking the new color-blocked styles. They pack look-at-me impact that should come with a warning (“Not for the faint of heart!”), and can elevate anything—even black-on-black. This season, you can’t go wrong with an ankle-strapped style in two neutrals or brights.

Cage Silhouettes
We think the caged high-heel is the perfect winter-to-spring transitional shoe. It falls somewhere between your peep-toe bootie and strappy sandal, and is surprisingly versatile—when styled just right. Try it with a mini for a party or skinnies for a date. Bonus? It reads sexy-as-can-be.
