Surge Protect Your Garage Door Opener July 30, 2007

My unit went out after five years because the board went bad after a lightening strike/power surge...no fault of Craftsman, just bad luck. To avoid this problem, I recommend getting the Chamberlain brand garage door opener surge protector which can be used with most major brand openers. Also, to reduce noise when opening/closing the garage door, I recommend having the plastic roller wheels verses the metal ones on the garage door. I switched mine out and it made a huge difference.

    Screw Drive. July 22, 2007

This is the bad design. I used it for only about 3 years before replacing the trolley rack. Replacing the trolley rack by turning downward the adjustment screws 8 turns. This may screw up the control circuit. This cheap plastic trolley is going against the long metal screw drive. It can be quiet at first but you can tell the force of opening/closing the door with the friction between plastic and metal. The plastic trolley has to worn out fast. Do not buy it. You will regret it !!!

craftsman garage door opener is so quiet April 08, 2012

Although I didn't install this garage door opener, the unit is real quiet and the installer also is so knowledgeable and friendly that it didn't take him very long to install. He adviced me to purchase a surge protector for the unit since lightning struck our transformer and fried some of my appliances. Thank you Sears! Corazon Lancaster

The Craftsman Garage Door Opener is a very quiet door opener. March 29, 2012

We just purchased the Craftsman Garage Door Opener and we are very pleased with it. It is very easy to operate and very quiet when it is opening the door. This is our second Craftsman and we are just as pleased with this one as the one we had 15 years ago.

I just installed the unit and it works great. My old house had a Chamberlain belt drive and it seems to be quieter. Simple to program. This is the second opener that I installed. Very easy.

OK but watch out for the dreaded buzz August 06, 2007

I bought two of these to replace 18yr old Stanley chaindrives. Installation is fairly simple and I actually did it by myself. After a couple of days the first unit I installed buzzed non-stop. Guy at Sears took it back (just the motor) and gave me a whole new unit since I did not know what parts I would need to replace. Second unit works fine--took me less than an hour to switch out. Returned unused parts back to Sears. Good customer service from Sears staff but still a hassle to have to install replacement unit.
