    my second craftsman chipper/shredder February 16, 2008

I have run a 15 y/o gray craftsman into the dirt. Overhauled once along the way. Was looking for something a bit smaller but similar in design features. Have now run the new one 3 hrs. mostly shredding leafs and am pleased with it. Have not pushed the 3" limit on chipping yet but am pleased with it on smaller branches. Even the older heavier machinge had trouble with 3" dried oak limbs so don't really expect this one to be any different.

    Just OK July 13, 2008

I've had my chipper since 1997, used it to reduce a large Mango tree to mulch. took the straight branches well. Lots of power, haven't had to sharpen it. Tuned it once, cleaned the carburator once, clean the air filter every 6 months. Only drawback, it won't do stringy material like ti leaves, gets clogged. works great on wood and leaves. Now, I can't a new bag for it.

fine for what is designed for April 09, 2012

Do not buy this chipper expecting to take down a forest. It is for the home owner. Yes, the offset in in the feed tube is problematic when feeding in large or bent limbs, but I am sure that is part of the safety design for the user, i.e. to keep a fool from inserting his hand in there and making contact with the blades. The machine has worked well for me for three years, never fails to fire, pull the rope like you got a pair. I have chipped limbs, leaves, garden waste and just about any yard waste you can thik of. Be patient when chipping, take your time and be carefull. My waste pile used to plague as to how to get rid of it without setting a fire. Now I just fire it up a couple of times a year, chip it all down and put it in my composters. Next spring it all goes into my garden to feed the soil. and if you still want to take down a forest, your gonna need a bigger pocketbook

Gets the tough jobs done March 08, 2012

I bought this chipper-shredder last fall with high expectations and was not let down at all..This machine came fully assembled and after filling the gas tank it started the first pull..I weigh 150 lbs and was impressed with the ease of the pull chord..Its a slow steady pull and you do have to put a little muscle into it but the fact that it started on the first try saved alot of physical energy..I used this machine to clear a bank of willows that had taken over one side of my pond..With chainsaw in hand and chipper running i began an eight hour a day, 3 week process of ridding the bank of 15' to 20' foot high,1inch to 2inch diameter clumps of willow..The Craftsman Shredder laid waste to these annoying minitrees with ease..Yes, it was time consuming as you have to be patient while feeding the hopper..But once you figure out just have fast you can feed the machine you're good to go..I will say this..The cutting blades in this shredder stayed sharp right up untill the last couple of days of business and were still sharp enough to get the job done..You have to understand that this was a 5 day a week job..I ran this shredder for 4 and 5 hours at a time by fueling while the engine was running which i wouldn't recommend and i know you shouldn't do and it never missed a beat during the 3 weeks that i used it..You really have to try to bog this machine down and like i said if you take your time, you won't be dissappointed..I did jam this machine up twice and with a prybar was able to remove the jam in short order..Again, be patient..A set of goggles and some good gloves are a prerequisite while using this machine also..The hours per gallon were great and it burned no oil during this time although i did check it periodically to make sure..The other thing I was impressed with was the fact that after all this RUN TIME this machine did not have any loose bolts..It came put together well..I have a good size garage so storage for me is not an issue..I spent a substantial amount of money and could have spent more on a bigger machine but this chipper shredder was just the right size and horsepower for helping me get and keep my ranch cleared and come springtime it will be put back into action helping me get rid of a winters worth of debris..A great overall performer and investment..Thanks Sears

    Craftsman Chipper March 07, 2012

Has been working great now for close to 3 seasons. Chips bunches of leaves into fine material. Thin branches chip easily and chips up to 1 inch diameter with little trouble. Over an inch and up to 2 inches must be fed through slowly and binding will occur and taking this baby apart to unclog it is a pain in the ole chipper! Recommend to anyone who does not require anything massive to clear debris. Machine is loud so wear ear protection and of course always wear eye gear.

The briggs and stratton engine with the chipper shredder is just what  I needed it has performed great, and the assembly was quick and easy,  however it would be nice to include a listing of required tools for those with out a full tool box.
