    A sturdy little tool box at a good price. April 12, 2011

    I originally went to Sears to buy a 23" tool box for $24.99. I found this 17" tool box on sale for $8.99, so I bought two. I ended up getting more storage space at a cheaper price. I would prefer a tool box with two latches like you would find on the 23" plastic tool box; however, this is a smaller tool box, so I guess the single latch is OK. It hasn't failed yet! I like the sturdy construction of this box. It's great for storing smaller tools, spare parts, PC or audio/video cables, etc.

    Caution - Don't buy July 31, 2008

    I have an older 17" Craftsman tool box that was sturdy and served me well for many years, but I needed a new one and this was the closest replacement Sears now carries. It is a Big Disspointment. It feels cheap, not sturdy, and I had doubts whether it would bear up once loaded with my tools. It did not. The latch popped open as I was carrying it I was barely able to set it down before losing my tools. I have to keep the lock in it to prevent it from popping. The small parts bins on the top may be handy but the depressions on the shell to house them extend too deeply inside, taking away any height that might be provided by the lid. If the tools in the inner tray are higher than the lip of the bottom the lid will not close completely or tightly. This causes a lose of about 2 inches in height in tool carrying capacity of the inner tray. Overall, I wish I would have gotten a different tool box, and am looking to replace it after a weeks use.

    What can i say, its a plastic tool box. You know its plastic when you pick it up. Plastic items are usually a bit flimsy, but sometimes you want a cheap simple plastic tool box over a heavier duty metal one. So i guess that while its not the absolutel most sturdy tool box out there, its totally worth it for the right price. I wouldnt pay full price for it, but otherwise a worthwile purchase since i got it on sale. .

    Pros:
    Sturdy construction

    My son (aged 11) was given two Craftsmen ratchet sets for Christmas. He has been helping me working on my mid 60's collector cars of late. This is a solid 1st tool box for my son, not some flimsy piece of plastic like all of the *********** and other such stores want to sell you. I bought a flimsy tool box for myself last year at ********** and the lid has already broken a plastic hinge. I wish I would have shopped at Sears for my own tool box. This one that we bought my son is sturdy and may very well be there for him when he is old enough to be out making repairs of his own and beyond. Thanks for giving us a decent alternative to all of the crap out there.

    I am usually against anything that is plastic (especially tools and toolboxes), but this item has proven to be exceptionally good.

    It's light and yet very robust.  The type of plastic used isn't ordinary plastic that whitens and eventually shatters, so I am under the impression that this item will last me a long time.  And, since it's made out of plastic, it will never rust, no matter what the storage conditions are.

    A removable tray helps keep little things organized.

    Highly recommended, especially for the price.
