This is the best Scrolling Sabre Saw that I have ever purchased. I have had it for about one year and I have not had one problem with it. It has all the power you will ever need and vairable speed. No clamps to titen the blade and a light and blower on it. This is the best saw ever. I would not recomend any other one.

      Blade Jam February 09, 2008

If your blade breaks flush with the shoe on this spring lock shaft, there is no easy way to remove it. I had to buy a new shaft assembly and take the sabre saw apart to fix this after only using it twice. Sears did not provide a free replacement. Look at this carefully before you buy it.

      Scrolling Saber Saw w/LaserTrac October 12, 2010
      via sears_dot_com
      By mikedinghy of Selden, NY

A versatile power tool. Many featured saw has Laser Trac which is of limited utility when you are not cutting a straight line. Blades change easily though protective window gets in the way. Multi speed and multi-function (orbital motion or straight reciprocating motion). Vacuum port to attach vacuum hose to get rid of saw dust. Work light illuminates surface. Scrolling feature allows for intricate cuts or can be used in tight places. This is still a medium large tool and will not get into very tight places (are there any saber saws that will?) Handy storage for extra blades in the screw-on handle.

Scrolling Sabre Saw with Laser is solid, but laser isn't needed June 15, 2010
      via sears_dot_com
      By Dave247 of Yorktown, VA

I purchased the Craftsman 17256 corded scrolling sabre saw with LaserTrac/Worklight to replace a Craftsman scrolling sabre saw I purchased in 1978 (it's still working, but the set screw holes for holding the blade have finally stripped). When I got home and took the 17256 out of the box and considered how I use the tool, I took it back and bought the Craftsman 17255 which is identical with the exception of the laser.  Although a laser is helpful for quickly positioning wood to make perfect cuts with some tools like my Craftsman miter saw, I don't think it is really necessary for a scroller saw because of the way I focus on the movement of the blade itself and how it cuts through the wood (looking for splintering/damage) more than where the laser falls on the wood surface.  Plus, the 17255 comes with a hard case, which I prefer since I am always taking my tools to my friends' and children's homes to assist with repairs or to correct DIY projects gone wrong. As a homeowner and occasional woodworker who constantly moved with the military for over 28 years, I always bought Craftsman power tools because they always held up and I could always find a Sears store and/or service center for parts like brushes for the motors. Nothing against the 17256 and its laser, but I'm happy with the identical 17255 without the laser, and am sure it will be a part of my tool collection for many years to come.

The Craftsman 17256 5.5 amp Sabre Saw is just what I wanted. June 02, 2010
      via sears_dot_com
      By rante03 of Lexington, KY

My recently received Craftsman 17256 5.5 amp Sabre Saw is a welcome replacement for my older Craftsman Sabre Saw, which is still working just fine - but I gave it to my son who with his new wife just bought and older home - with many fixit jobs for him to do. So I figure he needs it more than I do - except - now I have replaced mine with and even better saw.

My new sabre saw will do just about anything I want it to, with a surprisingly large selection of different adjustable operating speeds to select from. While I haven't yet had enought time to get fully acquainted with my new saw I have used it several times. I am more than pleased with the power and ease of use designed into this tool.

very good action...smooth, fast, accurate January 31, 2010
      via sears_dot_com
By KenRock of North Richland Hills, TX

I have owned a couple jigsaws, and this, by far, is the best I have ever used. The blade installs easily and quickly. The saw has a good feel....it is heavy enough to stay on track and not jump around, but not too heavy to maneuver. The Laser is accurate. The LED is helpful in low light conditions. The blower keeps the work area clean(although may not be helpful for lefties). The plastic(teflon?)bottom is nice...keeps the surface from being marked. I would recommend this saw for the price.
