Capable Snow Thrower January 11, 2009

I had 2 snowthrowers, a Toro SnowPup & a Lawn Boy single stage with steel auger. I bought the Craftsman 22" on 1/4/09 to replace them. So far, there have been 3 light snow showers since then in eastern Iowa. After reading previous comments, one of the first things I did was spray a silicon lubricant on the base of the chute so the chute would turn freely. I can turn that chute faster than owners of the 24" unit with the remote chute crank. I set the bottom bar up off the garage floor about 1/4" & it cleans snow right down to the pavement. But it has a problem going over imperfections in my driveway; such as cracks. It catches on the cracks so you have to raise it up, leaving a clump of snow. Another problem I encountered was doing the sideway from the driveway to the front steps. The snow thrower is too big to turn around on a normal width sideway. The solution is to back it up (no reverse, you have to physically back it up). You still have to finish up with a snow shovel. There will be places where the unit will leave clumps of snow & you still have the front steps & the stoop to do. According to next week's forecast, this snow thrower will get plenty of use.

POOR WET SNOW PERFORMANCE November 18, 2008

It snowed 2-3" overnight and I was anxious to try the new model# 88755 two stage snow thrower. The driveway was still not frozen and the snow loose on top of mushy stuff on the driveway. Air temp 24 degrees. I was VERY disappointed with the snow thrower's ability to pick up the mush/snow and remove it. Had to use the included unjamming tool several times. When it was not jammed, it threw the snow only 2-3 feet. These are the conditions sometimes in northeast Ohio. Perhaps it will work better on a frozen driveway and 6" of fluffy snow.

smaller was better January 31, 2009

I had a smaller snowblower that worked much better than this one. I bought this one because my other one broke during a snowstorm and had to have something. It is very heavy to move around and now I have to take it back for repairs because the blade got bend by ice! My smaller snowblower got through ice without a problem and now it may not be covered under warranty. It's only a month old! Next garage sale, it's going and I'll get my smaller one fixed!

My Thoughts On This Item January 30, 2009

My wife and son bought this for me, as our family just moved into a home that has a nice size, hilly driveway. It's the first Snow Thrower that I've ever owned and I love it. We've been getting a good bit of snow lately and the machine starts very easily, and makes cleaning the driveway a blast. It does struggle some with really wet snow, but overall I'd recommend it to anyone.

    works great January 28, 2009

This is my first snowblower and I am so glad I went with the two stage self propelled model at this price. We've had a record-breaking year for snow so far this year and this has saved me a lot of time and work. The auger has never clogged on wet snow, I just need a few extra passes to clear plowed in snow at the end of the driveway. The only problem I have is it can't get really packed down snow if it has thawed and refrozen, but I'd need a plow for that. I also learned if it's really windy it's a good idea to direct the snow into the wind if you don't want to wear it.

Does what it can January 19, 2009

I purchased this as my first snowblower. It was on sale ($499)and I didn't need a monster snowblower because we only get moderate snowfall around here. The first time I used it was great. Went right through about 4" of snow. The next time I used it was on about 3" of wet snow and once I started, all the belts started squeaking and squealing and the auger clogged. I brought it back for a replacement with no questions asked. The new one did the same thing on the wet stuff (minus all the belt noises). The auger clogs easily with the wet, slushy stuff. The next snowfall we got was 2-fold and a total of about 10" of deep powder. This thing did the job great. did my driveway without having to stop and also made quick work of the 24" plus at the end of the drive that the city snowplows created. If you want a blower that can toss the super-wet, thick, slushy stuff you'll need to buy one of the big, expensive guys. This one is perfect for small amounts of thick snow or any depth of thick powder.
