    Best Tiller Ever! April 12, 2011

    Last year I used a forward tine tiller. Needless to say, this tiller works great! Fatigue was reduced using this tiller. The forward tine tiller took most of the day to finally get the garden ready. This year, the rear tine tiller performed the same job, with much less effort, within 2 hours! It started on the 2nd pull! I didn't have any issues with the pins shearing for the wheels like some others have commented about. I highly recommend this tiller to anyone. Best bang for the buck as well! The Craftsman name certainly shows with this product. Only negative aspect is that there is no counterweight forward of the engine. That may increase performance! Other than that, it's perfect!

    Craftsman rear tine tiller April 04, 2011

    Kmart has ruined the craftsman name. This tiller has a piece of junk foreign made motor instead of the Briggs and stratton motor that the previous tillers had. Kmart has the nerve to call the motor a craftsman brand motor. This tiller is a lawsuit waiting to happen. When you put it in reverse the tines start to turn. Well what happens if you trip going backwards. OOps no more leg. And finally why isn't there a neutral on this machine for pushing it. You have got to be kidding me, you have to take pins out of the wheels and move the wheels anytime you want to push it. Just another way kmart has ruined the craftsman name.

    Right out of the box after I put gas and oil in it, the tiller started on the first pull and continues to start on one pull. Does a good job of tilling even hard dry rocky ground. The motor has more than enough power. My only complaint is you have to move pins on the wheels and axle to get it to free wheel. To move the tiller, you have to run the tiller in forward or reverse and hold up on the handles to keep the tines off of the ground or move the pins.

    The use of a rear-tine tiller is infinitely easier and more productive than the front-tine variety. The wheels propel you forward at an even rate while the tines do the work. This tiller is good for the home gardener. It has enough power to bang through hard soil and gets down to a pretty good depth. It usually starts on the first pull (still new) and if you follow the directions in the manual as well as suggestions for tilling, you will find it easy to use. The one suggestion I found helpful was to till as deeply as possible on the first pass because you may find the tires will spin in loose dirt. Even if this happens, you lightly lift up on the handle as you till and can proceed forward. I have used Very heavy duty Hydraulic tillers (thousand$) and though this is certainly not one, it will do the job of pulverizing my yard and garden quite well. I think the gear box is just fine though I wish one could have the option of drive without the tines in motion. The solution is to make sure you travel with the tines lifted up (lift the handle) when turning or in reverse. This tiller also has the option to freewheel if you take the pin out of each wheel. I'd probably use that feature if I had any kind of distance to push it but I just let it propel itself for the short hop from my front to back yard. All in all I am happy with this purchase and would recommend this tiller to anyone. Of note to another review I read: A tiller is NOT a toy. Like a lawn mower, you have to treat it with respect and use it mindfully. If the thing will pulverize dirt as if it were butter, then it is something you'll want to keep appendages clear of. On this one, the tines engage when the wheels engage. Follow precautions. Of note. I live in the west. The dirt in my yard is mostly like fill dirt with no topsoil. I guess they didn't worry about that 60 years ago when they built this house. The dirt is rocky and hard but this tiller conquers it easily.

    I recently purchased this tiller to replace a Troybilt rear tine tiller that was not counter rotating. What took all day with the Troybilt I completed in 2 hours with this tiller. Starts first pull. This tiller is amazing and I would highly recommend this tiller to anyone considering a new tiller. Great buy for the money!!!

    After purchase of model 29930, took home & put right to work. Made only 6 - 15 foot passes over ground, pin sherd, tines slide over and bearings came out of housing took back & replaced with model 29932 much better machine.It did the job with no problems, and when I say job I'm talking 30' x 40' garden. Rate the model 29930 @ 2 stars but the model 29932 I'd have to give it 4 stars. The 29932 is worth the extra money, especially if you do bigger jobs!
