    Electric start is great, engine starts , no choking required. February 15, 2011

    Have used it twice in very deep, heavy snow and it is very powerful. The adjustable end on the snow chute is very handy and effective, allowing you to keep from throwing snow into an area you have already cleaned. It doesn't seem to "use" gas, it just kind of "sips" it, making a tank of gas last a long time.

    Not bad....not that great either. February 24, 2011

    For the money, I expected more from this model. This unit starts well, cleans to the asphalt or concrete, and does the job quickly. So what's not to like? Height. It can get bogged down on the end of the drive, where the plow piles the heavy stuff. It has a ten inch height limit, or it begins choking on the heavy stuff. A two-stage for a little more $$$ wouldn't do that. Also has little traction when working on a grade which could prove dangerous. Have not needed the electric start in single digit temps. The engine is very good.

    I have a small property and thbought this unit in 2010. It got a good workout with all the snow we had and performed above expectations. Now for 2011 / 2012 Winter it had no use at all because there was no snow in my area - WOW.

    The Craftsman 179cc 21" Single-Stage Thrower is a great edition to my snow fighting arsenal. I have a fairly small yard, and this snow thrower out performs my expectations. The Craftsman Snow-Claw Auger grips the pavement, clearing the snow, and at the same time, propelling the unit forward. It sports a 4-cycle engine, which for me is a big deal since I was really tired of making my own stinky, messy gas-oil mix in the garage. The snow thrower is easy to maintain and use, too. The chute can be rotated and raised and lowered with ease for changing the direction of thrown snow. The auger is made of rubber and is an inexpensive replaceable part.

    Unit is a basic snow blower, will handle wet and heavy snow. Works fine if you are not in a hurry to finish.The electric start on this size unit is unnecessary.

    I was a little hesitant at first after reading some of the reviews but needed a blower today and this one was available so I pulled the trigger and got one. What a difference. My other one broke so I was shoveling yesterday and today I was throwing snow with practically two fingers. Easy assembly, good instructions. This machine is light wieght and easy to maneuver. Was able to blow through 10 inches of wet snow with no problem. Was a little louder than I thought it would be but am happy so far.
