    You can't beat Craftsman March 08, 2012

    I just got this mower a few weeks ago for my lawn and couldn't be happier. It starts on the first pull and runs quiet. I like that when you bag your grass that the seal around the bag doesn't leak out dust. It fits tight between the mower and the bag.

    Beware July 17, 2011

    I bought a self propel Craftsman three summers ago and I am replacing parts that were made to wear out. The front wheels have plastic gears, but the drive gears are pot metal. Guess what's going to wear out in a hurry? I should have replaced the front wheels last year, but I limped along with only one wheel working. The wheels are $17 apiece from Sears. I found a local mower shop that can get them for less, but I have had them on order for more that two weeks and they still haven't arived yet. Apparently others are having the same problem with the gears being stripped. I also had to order a new cable assembly for the self propel mechanism. The cable is really thin and broke off at the transmission. The cable took two weeks to get and it cost $23. Not sure what Sears would charge. This all may not sound like a big deal, but over the past two years, I have only used the mower about 8 times, and these parts wore out or broke that soon??? Think again before buying a Craftsman self propel. Take this into consideration also: I live on the west coast of Florida. Our yards are not hard like up north. We have sand mixed with dirt here, so the ground is soft which makes it harder for the mower. A high wheel works best here, but few companies sell them unless you go to a commercial grade mower and pay the big bucks.

    Mulching is terrible. It leaves clumps of grass every 2 feet. My old cheap mower did better mulching. And that was a Craftsman too. They screwed up something? Will not get another one. Best thing about it is Briggs and Stratton motor.

    I love this mower! However, upon retrospect I should have gotten one from SEARS with a bigger bag, I have to empty it a lot more than I did with my previous mower, but that is the ONLY drawback. It would be fine for someone with a smaller lawn, mine is about 1/4 acre and the bag just is not big enough.
