    Good H.P.,good forward speed,nice mowing deck.. Reverse is a JOKE. It can really put you in a bind when you're going down a hill (or even a small bump) with a object in front of you.. Something really needs to be done about this.. My only other complaint is the throttle control is in a bad position (top left of mower). Lots of times mowing around shrubs and bushes, the limbs will pull across mower and pull the throttle control back to the slow position.. I'd recommend this mower as long as you don't need reverse very much..

    I have had my tractor for 3 years now and really haven't had any issues, until now. My tractor will not cut up hill at the recommended 15 degree slope. It won't even move forward on an almost 0 degree(flat) piece of property. I only have 42 hours on my mower and feel that is a wide spread issue on this tractor. I think Craftsman should recall this tractor and replace the ****** hydrostatic transmission with a heavy duty transmission. I am not impressed at all that only after 3 years and $2500 spent on this tractor, that now I will need to fork out almost half the cost of the tractor to have it fixed. I had purchased a new mower from a well know business nearly 15 yrs ago and never had any issues. I gave it away recently because I wasn't using it because I had what I thought was a reliable tractor. Boy was I wrong. Anyway, the mower I gave away is still running after all these yrs. Craftsman or Sears need to own up to a defect and have it fixed at their expence.

    Purchased this tractor earlier this month to replace my 4 year old Poulan Pro 18HP tractor. Reason for the change was to get a "heavier" tractor for snow removal as well as lawn mowing. After many hours of on-line research and visits to various retailers, I decided that the Craftsman tractor(s) offered the best deal. I now have about 16 hours on the tractor and I feel I was correct in my decision. Most of that 16 hours was spent using the optional scoop attachment moving 10 yards of 3 inch rock around the yard. The mower cuts perfectly and with no scalping!

    This tractor was purchased in mid 2004. Here it is 3 years later and the engine is gone. We've been told that there is about a 50/50 chance that a $350 repair MIGHT fix the problem. Our other option is to spend $1,200 + ~$200 labor on a rebuilt engine. This is not acceptable. If I'm going to spend a lot of money on something it better last much much longer than 3 years. Sears and Briggs and Stratton have a great reputation, but I would never buy this tractor again without a GOOD LONG WARRANTY!
