    3/8 in ratchet module is tough March 31, 2011

    Origionally I bought the 154 piece mechanics set but returned it for an upgrade. The drive socket modules use the thin profile ratchets which are a lot heavier and feel much nicer than the standard ratchets. No sharp edges and the smooth high polish finish won me over. Solid construction and you cant beat the lifetime guarantee.

    Molded storage module not worth it April 17, 2009

    If you are interested in buying this set for the "molded storage" don't bother. The molded storage module is just a thin plastic and will not last. I picked it up with one hand and it distorted enough to pop the cover off. Most of the sockets fell out on the floor. The tools are ok but the molded storage is just a thin plastic and no better than the thin molded plastic that most items are shipped in.

    I can't say enough good about this set. The chrome is good, all sockets were there and in their correct spot. The case leaves a little to be desired but I didn't purchase it for the case. If I could change/add anything I would add a u joint extension, have the socket sizes imprinted on the black part of the case, and use a hard plastic case. But, its still a top notch set thats made in the USA and guaranteed for life!! Thank you Sears and Craftsman!!

    Ratchet, Sockets, and Extensions Made in the U.S.A. Great set includes nearly every 6 pt. 3/8" drive socket that Craftsman makes. And while the plastic tray could be thicker, its more than adequate for storing in a tool chest. Watch the sales, I was able to pick this up for about $45.

    The set came in today and it looks pretty good so far. The only reason that I am rating it as a 3 Star is because the set came with two deep 5/8 inch sockets instead of an 18mm deep socket. I will be trying to exchange the socket but look forward to using this set at work.

    I can't recommend this set more highly.  You get what a real mechanic needs- a really great, high-quality ratchet, along with all 6-point sockets and several extensions.  With this set you are good to go for a wide variety of tasks.

    The thin profile ratchet here is extremely comfortable, ergonomic, and has a very fine ratcheting action with a lot of strength to it with no slop.  It's better than the old Craftsman flat-panel ratchets by a country mile.  I wouldn't even think of buying a Craftsman socket set without a thin-profile ratchet.

    Although I am extremely metric-biased, I will admit that I have had occasion to reach for the 7/8" and 1" sockets.  Apart from that you have a great selection of deep sockets as well as a full selection of shallow.  You might need to buy a few more metric deep sockets at the bigger end to complete it, but for my money, when it gets bigger than 18mm I'm quite happy moving into 1/2" drive.

    It is not an entirely complete set, but nothing here is unnecessary, which makes it a darn good tool set in my book.  An instant classic.
