    Buffer head padding comes off. August 06, 2007

    the buffer works great, but after a while the padding on the buffer comes off. the buffer has two foam pads; the denser foam attached to the plastic for mounting to the buffer and a less dense foam glued to the denser foamer. the less dense foam came off after several polishings of my car and i cannot find a replacement on sears.com. unless you can take a piece of foam and contact cement it to the buffer head you're out of luck finding a replacement on sears.com.

    I received this polisher as a gift and though it wasn't what I probably would've bought for myself (my research pointed me towards a different model) this little polisher exceeded my expectations. Before using it, I purchased a hook & loop mounting plate for use with like pads hoping to be able to use the more commonly available and highly rated foam pads as I was not impressed by the limited assortment of bonnets offered by Craftsman. I found a 6" hook & loop mounting plate compatible with an extremely popular competitor to this product would screw right in instead of the foam bonnet holder that comes with the Craftsman. In the end, I was happy with the results on my test car (managed to lift some swirls out of my sister's Accord) and will probably continue to use the Craftsman though I'm a little afraid to go after my black car with it. If this unit was a variable speed unit similar to some of its more expensive and more popular competitors, I'd be more inclined to recommend this product to friends.
