Craftsman 4.8 volt Cordless Rotary Tool Vs. Remington 1100
I recently bought a Remington 1100 LT-20 Skeet-T shotgun and it was in horrible condition! It had been in an open box in a dusty attic for better than 15 years when I finally got to it to rescue it! The previous owner had passed away and his wife asked one of her children to store it for her and he oiled it all down (quite heavily I might add) and stuck it up in her attic in an open box. Years worth of dust collected on the oil until it eventually dried out and turned into something an adobe brick. I'm talking stuff that could be used for brake lining for a semi! At any rate, I get the shotgun home and I didn't really have much in the way of polishing tools and I new I'd need something to get down into the little cracks and crevices that this gun sports. Places like where the barrel rib is attached and the threaded magazine tube cap, etc. I had all the small scrapers and toothpicks needed but I needed something to really bring out the bluing in the metal once I was done scraping. Bring on the 61078 cordless rotary tool! I completely disassembled the shotgun right down to the last nut and bolt and began the tedious process of cleaning it up. The rotary tool came in to play much sooner than I thought it would just getting a lot of that old dried oil of all the small parts it permeated through. The bolt carrier had enough of that junk to prevent it from ever operating like it should until I got after it with the rotary tool and a very fine polishing compound! Now it's as slick as greased owl snot on an ice cube! I worked my way all through the gun and then once it was finally thoroughly cleaned I started to polish the areas that still needed it and then deburred a few areas of concern around the shell carrier and the grooves inside the receiver making it all nice and smooth! I reassembled it lightly oiling it as I went and continued to polish those areas that still needed a bit and then, when I was finished took it to a gunsmith for a final checkup before I ever thought about hitting the range! Now, before I go on, I have to tell you that I did buy this shotgun sight unseen and I only paid a total of $50 ($25 for the shotgun and $25 for the transfer fee) from the son who oiled the devil out of it 15 years ago! It had been left to him when his mom passed away last year and he had no use for it. He knew what he was selling so don't blame me for making a sweet deal! The gunsmith took the 1100 in hand and went all through it making these 'Hmmm..." sounds as he went making me as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs! When he looked like he was done I asked if he thought it would be a good gun for the wife and what value it might have for insurance purposes. He asked me how I cleaned the gun since there was no warn bluing and no spots where the gun looked like it had ever had been polished and I told him what tools I used and how the rotary tool saved me on a couple of occasions. He offered to buy the gun for $850 right then and when I turned him down he told me it was easily worth that and maybe a bit more. The wife was thrilled with her new skeet gun! Thank you Craftsman!

Not Good
I bought this to do my dogs nails and used it twice and put it on the charger and it wouldn't charge. I took it back and got a new one and it would not last through more then 2 nail trims so I went with the Dremel Brand and Love It.

Just what I needed

This tool was pruchased for light jobs in both home and auto applications. Small and portable were the two primary requirements for which this tool is perfect. Good value for money.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Need better power cell

A little disappointed with this tool for multiple reasons. First and the biggest was the battery. It takes way too long for a standard charge and seems to drain fairly quick. I did not see a lot of actual work time. Might be a better deal with 2-batteries so that you can alternate charges between the two batteries. Next: I know that this is a small tool for small jobs, but it just didn't seem to pack much punch for the polishing and buffing that I tried. I would have thought that this would be a little more powerful than it was for me. I did like the size and it was easy to hold and maintain control while using the tool and easy to change out accessories. The battery was easy to install and remove and the included charger was easy to add or remove the battery for charging. The tool had 2-operating speeds. This tool might be ok for some folks out there, but it just wasn't the tool for me.

craftsman 4.8 cordless rotary tool with accessories

I'm happy with the tools performance so far I've used it to cut off ruined aluminum rivets, and to cut some small plastic pieces ,also I'm using it to customize my kayak and it's performed as well as can be expected especially for the price. My only complaint and the reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the power is lacking at times and the battery goes down a little quick.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Craftsman 4.8V cordless rotary tool wears out quickly

The switch invariably wears out within about a year.  I use mine a lot and

due to the economical cost, don't mind replacing it on an annual basis.

Rotary tool is perfect for small hands!

Bought this item for my wife and it fits perfect in her hand. She loves it and she does her own nails now. I bought it for the price of one nail application. Great investment for someone that has to have their nails done every week.

Overall
Its great for small projects

its a 4.8 volt rotary tool with two speeds, 6,000 rpm and 15,000 rpm (I think, too lazy to get the manual). Its battery operated. It does what its supposed to do, dont expect to use it to build a house or anything, I use it to remove rust on my bike and other things, trim the dogs nails (which is waaaay better than the pedi-paws), and other small projects. I only use it for about 5 minutes at most, so I can't really measure battery life. If you want something for bigger projects - stop being cheap and buy a corded one (a battery powered one won't work out for you) and one with better options.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Overall
Cordless Rotary Tool great for trimming dog nails.

This cordless rotary tool is very compact and easy to handle.  I find it very easy to use as a tool to grind the toe nails of my dogs, and I have seen this product being used in grooming shops as well.  It is far superior to the one seen on TV.  It holds sufficient charge to do more than one average dog.  The sanding drum holds up well.  You can obtain other tips for this rotary tool to sand, polish or grind.  This is not a heavy duty tool and must be used accordingly.

Filing Dog's Nails for Work

This is my second grinder from Craftsman. I find that this product is great for about the first month that I use it. Everytime that I buy it, I always get the extra warranty. Because where I work, I constantly use the grinder 5 days a week and multiple times a day. It works great for about 2 and a half months of constant, heavy use and then starts to die out. My fellow coworkers have the dremel version and the craftsman version and they both say the same thing about both products.
