      A great way to start out your cordless collection! September 27, 2009

      I've had my Craftsman 6-piece cordless combo kit for two years now and I love it.  The stock batteries will stay charged for a long time in between uses and recharge quickly.  All the tools are incredibly durable and useful for home projects.  The drill is powerful and easy to control.  The driver has met all the tasks I've thrown it's way.  The saws have made there way around the house helping trim branches and even out chairs and tables.  Even the light gives you peace of mind in case of emergencies.  I've recently begun to expand my collection, adding a corner sander that should find it's way quickly into my rotation.  My only concern is the battery life.  If you plan on using more than one tool for a job, you might consider upgrading the batteries to the longer lasting options Sears has available.  The kit comes with three batteries, but if you put the tools under heavy stress, the batteries can conk out and need recharging rather quickly.  This is to be expected of almost any cordless tool.  I highly recommend this to anyone looking to go cordless for odd-jobs around the house, or for a beginner DIY'er.

      I got the extented warranty and I'm glad I did. I'm retired and just trying to fix up the house. The batteries last for maybe 15 mins. And yes the trim saw does cut threw 2x's after about 2 or 3 passes. The keyless chuck on the drill works fine as long as you stop every few minutes and tighten the chuck back up, so the bit doesn't fall out. The sawsall works fine if the board is not to thick. But the light that came with the set, I do like it. So I took them back to the store and got a new set. Which they would not let me buy the extented warranty this time. The new set works the same as the old one. If someone is just going to build a shelf or tighten a screw once in awhile this set is probably OK. But for someone working on their house or who is used to powerful tools, you might consider buying Dewalt. I know I am. That's what my son uses in construction and he has know complaints. You might pay a little more for Dewalt, but to eliminate the headace and frustration, It will be worth it. Don't get me wrong, I do like Craftsman hand tools. I also have their big table saw, routers, bandsaw, benchsander and more, but they are all electric. It's just their cordless tools that lack what I need. Thanks for reading my review.
