    So affordable you can keep one in every trunk September 30, 2008

    I might be showing my age, but I can remember when a multimeter this good was so fragile & expensive that you did some real soul-searching before taking it out of the workshop. Not so any more -- this new line of super affordable Craftsman DVMs are so accurate and rugged that my goal is to have one in the trunk of every vehicle I own. I can't count how many times I've been somewhere and I've used this to troubleshoot a no start or no-charging issue on a car, a wiring harness on a trailer...or, for that matter, test a suspect wall socket, fuse, or balky appliance while visiting at a friend's house. As for accuracy, so far we've bought at least 3 or these meters, and they have all agreed with the $$$ Fluke multimeter we use as our master reference -- very impressive given the low price of admission. Last but not least the 1 1/2" tall display is extremely easy to read, even when your head is deep in an engine bay and you are looking over your shoulder to read it. NOTE: If you are working on the side of the road at night, the backlit function means that you don't have to shine a flashlight at the LCD display in order to read it. (way better than trying to simultaneously juggle the flashlight along with the probes!) Normally I don't write product reviews, but this meter feels like such a value that I wanted to let others know that you don't have to spend $200 in order to get a multimeter good enough to troubleshoot with. {dbm}

    Ok, but manual incomplete December 19, 2007

    The manual does not mention the Frequency Counter or Temperature measurement settings. I'm still trying to figure out how many volts to output to the frequency counter for my microcontroller project. When no thermocoupler is plugged in, it seems to measure ambient temperature... Sometimes it does not turn on when I press the On button. A tap or two usually does it. I'll have to open it up and find the cold solder joint, I guess. On the other hand, the design is pretty good and it seems to be pretty accurate.
