    The Crafftsman 1/2 hp chain drive garage opener works great! May 04, 2011

    This garage door opener was purchased to replace a 30 year old 1/3 hp opener that had a receiver that died. I had never installed one before but I was able to assemble it in about 2 hours and then installed it, with a few tweaks, in nearly the same location as the old one. Installing the electric eyes and aligning them is what took the longest. The testing took about an hour. The quiet operation and range of the remotes are the highlights for me. A couple days after I installed it I figured that I could run a short for the safety sensors if I ever want to. We don't have any children around so we don't really need it.

    Doesn't work with old remotes & keypad February 14, 2011

    My main motivation for buying a Craftsman door opener was to re-use as much of the old opener hardware as possible. This seemed reasonable, as the old one was also a craftsman. In the end, I had to replace: the door sensors, the remotes, and the remote keypad. This made for more labor on the installation and substantial expense to replace remotes and the keypad ($40 alone). If I had know this, I would have purchased another option. I find it incomprehensible that the sensors needed to be replaced. Why is it necessary to run new wires? The old sensors should have worked, and if not, there should have been plugs on the new sensors so wires would not need to be re-run. And for some reason Sears decided to change the frequency on the remotes and none of the old ones work. It would have been nice to warn the customer with a label on the box or at least on the install guide. And lastly, the other issues is this opener only has one light. This provides marginal lighting and I would prefer to see a bigger bulb area, so I could install one of the 150W equivalent CFL bulbs. On the positive, the door adjustments were easy and installation was not hard.

    Bought this unit to replace a older model craftsman garge door opener. Installed it in about 1/2 the day using pretty much the same install location. This unit is smoother and quieter than the older one and I hope it will last for sometime.

    The description on Sears webpage says that unit works with Homelink in your car. It will not even recognize the signal from my 2008 car. When I called Sears warranty to ask what the problem could be, was told I would have to buy a service contract, and then they did not guarantee that the Homelink would really work. They also told me they were not a tech support operation. This on a product only 2 days old. I had forgotten why I quit buying from Sears but will not every forget again.

    Never installed a garage door before, but consider myself pretty handy. Was able to take down my old unit and track easily and this one mounted in the same position. Directions were easy to follow and I didn't have any issues installing it. Works great and super quiet. I replaced a Sears garage door opener that was 30-40 years old, definitely recommend this Craftsman, we love it so far.
