    Trust in the brand name of Craftsman. May 09, 2007

    I bought this particular garage door opener for three main reasons. First, I trust the Craftsman label. Second, I have an unattached garage with no side entry door and the Diehard battery back-up system was attractive because of power failures in my area. And finally, the belt drive had to be much quieter than the chain drive on my old system. I'm pleased to announce that all of my expectations were met. During an ice storm we had a power failure lasting several days and the only way I had access to my car was by using the DieHard battery back-up system which worked to perfection. I found the belt drive, which is steel belted, to be much quieter and just as reliable as the chain drive of my old system. I have to admit that I bought this system during a Sears sale so I was able to get the best brand, Craftsman, for much less than brands of lesser quality. I also splurged and bought the Protection Agreement for just $15 and ended up using it within the one year period to have the controls adjusted which saved me even more money.

    Don't be Mislead April 17, 2007

    First understand that this unit has a DC motor. Therefore the 0.5HP is not as powerful as an AC 0.5HP motor. The manual looks like it was written in a language other than English and then translated into English. If I had installed the unit as described in the manual, the rail would be 9-12 inches out of level with the motor unit. Normal installation would have the rail installed level, which is what I did. I'm not happy with the sectional railing design, it too is flimsy and bounces around. Sears give me back the old Tee rail which takes a few more minutes to install but makes the installation rigid. The travel adjustment was easy but the instructions where poor. Once I engaged the door the unit was unable to lift the door. My door is double wide but I can lift it will one hand and no binding occurs. After wasting an afternoon adjsuting and readjusting I finally gave in to removing the unit for return to Sears. Stay away from this unit unless you are opening a finger light door. Thank goodness for Sears return policy.

    Our old garage door opener stopped working. We went out and bought a new Craftsman Belt Drive opener. It is so quiet! We used to hear the old one no matter where you were in the house. We love this new opener.

    I had owned numerous chain driven openers that require much more maintenance and are noisy.

    I've had this cratsman belt opener longer than any of my previous garage door openers and so far maintenance free except for the light bulb changes.

    This opener seems much easier to program new remotes to as well. I love not having to check and maintain my previous chain models.

    Bought this to replace a Dayne Walton chain drive and am totally happy with the purchase thus far. Was easy to install. It is sooo quiet. And it has a motion detector light which is a great feature. The sensor is in the door opener control pad. The battery back up is nice to know you have when the power should ever go out. Since our power has never gone out yet, can't comment on it's performance. The only draw back I can see is that the door could open a little faster. It seems slow only that I can assume that it's because it is belt driven and the slower the door the less stress on the belt.
