    I wish I didn't need this ! September 10, 2010

    The truth is, I seem to drop a lot of small parts.  This is an inexpensive and handy tool. It can save a lot of little cuts on the hands from digging in small places for small parts. Folds up nice and small when not in use.  Strong little magnet on the end of this device also.

    When extended fully, you need to be pretty steady, especially if you are digging around metal. The magnet will sway and attach to any metal it gets close to.  On a couple occasions I gave up and grabbed my extendable grabber claw instead.

    You Get What You Pay For... June 30, 2009

    This product does indeed do what is advertised...picks up 1-1/2lbs with it's magnetic tip and for that I am appreciative. However it should be noted that this is a very flimsy tool when fully extended (25-1/2 inches). The tool can easily be bent while extended (thus rendering it impossible to retract) and the tool I picked up was very hard/rough to extend. I found it necessary to place a light coat of oil on the tool while fully extended to help smooth out the roughness while extending the tool. I've noticed this tool's finish is VERY susceptible to rust. It was already rusting at the magnetic tip and pocket clip while still in the original packaging. With light duty and careful use I can see this tool possibly lasting a year, maybe two, but I have no expectations for this tool to last a lifetime. I fully expect to have to return it to Sears for a replacement in the future, but that has always been a strong point of the Sears/Craftsman Lifetime Warranty - easy, no-hassle replacement! I praise Craftsman highly for this warranty, just unfortunate to know that I'll have to use it on this product. Once again, you get what you pay for with this item.

    Wrong Magnet

    They have the right idea with this part, the problem I see with it, is they are using a ferrous style magnet in the tip, and for it being that small, to have any real pull, you really need to use a rare earth magnet.  The telescoping and pocket clip are fine though.

    This tool works great for picking up screw, nails, tacks etc that get stuck in hard to reach places.  The telescoping feature is the best.  And it folds up to the size of a pen to fit nicely in your pocket or briefcase!

    I love this tool - use it a lot when I work on pinball machines to pick up dropped screws and nuts.  Well designed, rugged, collapses into a pen shape that can fit in your pocket.  Powerful magnet!  And the cost is very low in my opinion.  Get one!
