    great substitute for a power one April 25, 2008

    Sometimes there are tiny projects that power miter saws are too much for. Thus this little saw performs a great rescue. This saw does great cutting small stock, but especially like 1/4" x 1/4" or smaller, whereas a power miter saw is way too violent and tears the stock to pieces, even when using an ultra smooth (non tearing) veneer blade. This saw is very easy to use and does a perfect job. This is one of those precious tools that is not needed very often, but when it is, nothing else will do. This tool is well worth the money and I highly recommend it to anyone. I'm totally satisfied with mine.

    Disposable August 08, 2006

    I was really happy with my purchase of this saw. It worked well and I was able to make a lot of perfect cuts while installing the trim in my house. Now my blade is dull and I am finding out you can not replace the blade. It comes off and should be an easy thing to find but I can not. I have gone to our local sears with my saw in hand and they did not even know what it was. I took them to the shelf and showed them one in the box and they told me they did not carry a blade for this saw. I then went to our local sears service center and they looked at my saw like it came from outer space and said they also could not get me a blade. I emailed sears parts center with the link to their web page selling the saw and their model numbers as listed on their website and they told me the part numbers are not in their data base. It is funny that if you want to buy one they can find the model number to sell it to you but if you need parts they can not. Buy the cheapest saw they sell because the best one is disposable.

    Sloppy cuts

    Despite being called a precision miter box, in my opinion it is far from precision. The saw blade is not properly supported to cut accurately. It looks very nice, and looks like it should do much better than a plain old 5 dollar plastic miter box, but it just can't do a better job than the cheap one. It looks like a "copy" of something that was probably designed better

    When purchasing a $40 miter saw, I don't have the highest of expectations. If I wanted professional quality that was going to last me 10 years, I'd swing for the $159 model at my local Rockler. On the other hand, I wish I had known there was a compound cousin of this model. For an extra $18, having the ability to make simple shadow box frames would have been worth it. I really like the detents, they lock in nicely, and are very accurate. I was pleased to find there was one more than stated on the box. I like the feel of the entire package, although some minor nits keep me from giving it a 5 on workmanship (the clamps are quite poor). As commented by other reviewers, the blade is so thin, it almost seems like it should be a pull saw. I've had some trouble making a quality miter that leaves no gaps (could be lack of experience). Maybe I'll turn the blade around and use it like a pull saw. Might take some getting use to, but worth a shot. In the end, I got a product that functions and is worth the $40 I paid.

    I needed a miter box for cutting some 2.5" square hardwood. Thusfar I've made 2 cuts and it worked fine. I'm hoping that the Sears or Stanley part numbers listed in other reviews will work for a replacement blade.
