I am an ASE certified technician who primarily builds high-dollar, high-performance engines. I purchased this impact almost 7 years ago after falling in love with its baby brother the 3/8" model. I was replacing an 1/2" Ingersol-Rand that I have had for over 30 years. The IR was not broken and works perfect. I only replaced it because of ergonomics and weight. I am left handed and use of the old IR required both hands to change directions and the ft lbs of force-it was designed more for a right handed person to use, and even then, the controls were not that easy to use compared to this one. The old IR weighed quite a bit more than this plastic composite. The weight probably doesn't matter to most people--except when you use it for a considerable amount of time--you get tired faster. By appearance, this impact looks identical to Ingersol-Rand's current model. I believe IR produces this tool for Craftsman. IR is a premier air tool manufacturer which I have quite a bit of experience with. I own several of there tools, most of which are at least 10-20 years of age. Repair parts are easy to obtain--in all my years of working with these tools, I only needed 2 parts (1. a little snap ring that hold the sockets on because after 25 years of use--it wore out; 2. a new anvil because I accidently dropped the wrench on the end and chipped it). Sears is also extremely good at parts availability and repair. The top performance feature to consider is the power. Read and compare specs on other models (except the IR--it is exactly the same--but costs more), I could not find one that had more reverse power. On several occasions I have had other technicians use there "other brand" impact and failed to remove a fastner. Before they went to get a huge breaker bar to remove the bolt manually, they come to me to ask to borrow this impact which would remove the bolt with ease. Through experience, I have found that if this impact will not remove a bolt, you will need at least a 4ft breaker bar to impart the same amount of force manually--and then, if you do not further prepare the bolt with heat or penetrating oil, the bolt usually snaps off anyway. Conclusion: For fasteners up to about 1" shank diameter, you can not beat the power of this tool. This tool has so much power, on fastners less than 1/2" you actually have to adjust the impact force lower or you will snap off or strip the bolts. If I had to pick just one air wrench to own, this would be it.

Broken after 4 years of light use
I loved this impact wrench when I first got it. Unfortunately it has been 4 years now of occasional use, oiled after each use and it is broken. It spins and reverses but has no torque left. I can stop the socket from spinning with my bare hand. My guess is the clutch is shot on it but I really don't think I've put it through that much use at all. I've probably used it 10 times total and it is very clean and new looking. I might try another if I could get some sort of credit on my old model.

No problems with this tool.

I think this tool is actually made by Ingersoll Rand for Sears. I've had it for several years, and used it plenty when replacing the axles on my trailer, and when working on my Surburban. It has plenty of power. I suspect that those who have had trouble with it have either abused it or not maintained it, including oiling it regularly.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Not bad for the price

I got this gun out of desperation after my ol' IR quit the bed. At first I wasn't happy with it, due to it being less powerful than my last, however, I've grown used to it. It works just fine for taking tires off, which is all I've gotten to use it for.

This gun is reasonably light, and it's easy to reverse the direction with your thumb. It's a good buy for the money, however, Craftsman makes another Professional series 1/2 inch impact that's the same price, and has over 100 ft/lbs more break away torque. I would have gotten the better gun if I could have, but they were out of stock at my store, and my I couldn't afford to wait for one to come in.

All in all, this is a great gun for a tech just starting out in the field, or a hold-over for a professional tech.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Overall
This is a great wrench!!

I bought this impact several months ago to replace another Craftsman Professional Impact Wrench. This impact is very nice. It is lightweight, and very durable. It is able to break lug nuts off my Silverado Pickup Truck. The Impact features two speeds and 4 position torque with 50-400 ft./lbs. and a maximum torque of 450 ft./lbs. forward and 600 ft./lbs. in reverse. When properly maintained, this impact shall serve me for many years to come. I really enjoy using this impact when I can. And I hope to order the 3/8" impact of the same style when I get a chance.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Overall
Best impact in my shop

Craftsman Professional 1/2 in. Impact Wrench is a work horse for my shop. I use it nearly on a daily basis in my shop. I work mostly on tractors and buggies, but do some some light auto work too. I wasn't too sure about the durability of the light composite body, but I quickly changed my mind after I put this light impact to work. This body is tougher than I thought it would be. besides its light weight, this thing is a work horse to say the least. I used to have to use a 1/2" drive breaker bar, but now it just sits in my tool box, collecting dust since I purchased this Craftsman impact. Has plenty of torque for every job that I have ever needed it for. Does great for removing tires on my pickup truck & my  kids cars, that I get tricked into working on. This is not only the lightest of my impacts, it is also the quietest impact. I also like that you can change the amount of torque that you need by changing the selector on the back of the impact. I used to work on some pretty stubborn blade assemblies & brush hogs with a lot of stuggling, but now, I just grab my air hose & pop on this impact wrench & those once stubborn bolts are now history & I don't even have to break a sweat, anymore. It also makes tearing down a engine, pretty quick. I use the Craftsman deep well impact sockets when I use this impact & have not come across anything yet, that I have not been able to break loose. Great impact for the shop & great price to boot. Awsome impact, in my opinion...

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Overall
Well balanced, well made wrench.

I am an ASE certified technician and build high-dollar, high-performance racing engines. I found this composite 3/8" impact wrench to be light, maneuverable, and extremely powerful to remove most fasteners up to 1/2" in shank diameter.  It's a time-saving tool and very easy to use.
