It's a powerful saw.
This is a pretty powerful saw. It is advertised that it has an electric brake, but it still runs on for a few seconds, but not as long as other saws. The bolt which locks the blade in place gives you the option of either using their hex head allen style key or a box wrench. I have an offset type of wrench from an old saw which seems to fit perfectly, and prefer to use that over their key since it gives me a better grip to make the bolt tight. It comes with an end guide rip fence, but no carry case or LEDs to illuminate the work area or to be used as a guide. It came with a Craftsman 3D sanding tool as a bonus for ordering it online.

Can't cut true

I bought this saw back in April for a deck project.  After cutting the mostly 2 X 10's with no problem, I moved onto 6 X 6 posts,  this is where I discovered a design flaw.  The blade and the saw deck aren't true, off by about 3 degrees.  This is not noticed on shallow cuts, but on deeper cuts that utilize the full cutting depth this is seen.  I returned the saw to sears and exchanged it for a new one, same model.  When it got delivered to me, it had the same flaw, the saw deck makes contact with the housing and won't allow the saw to cut 'true'.

I am highly disappointed as I loved using the saw.  It was relatively light, excellent blade, high amperage, and the hy-poid (worm drive).

I will try a different model and hopefully have a better outcome.

Did the job

I use these saws to cut masonry with diamond blades. This particular job was concrete and it cut thru like butter without any real bogging down. This is my first Craftsman worm drive (Hypoid). Very impressed so far.

One Fine Saw

I've been using this type of saw for more than thirty years. We used to simply call this a "worm drive" saw; Craftsman labels it "hypoid". The fact is, the gearing (the axis of the electric motor is at a right angle to the axis of the blade) utilized in this type of saw reduces the vibration; this feature enables excellent control and allows for exceptionally precise cutting. The saw provides good control for depth of cut and angle of cut, and the ergonomics of the saw allow excellent visibility of the cutting edge. This type of saw is heavier than a typical circular saw; but it functions more efficiently. This is the second Craftsman Professional Hypoid Saw I've purchased in three years (a result of needing this type of saw in different locations; plus, I've owned a third Craftsman worm drive for a decade), and I was delighted to find this exceptional tool for a very reasonable price. Based on my experience, I can highly recommend this saw to an amateur or a professional user.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Happy sawing fool...

I had been looking at replacing my old Skil saw that was a "gift" from my late grandfather. I found this saw at a great price with an online deal. I fired it up a week ago and couldn't be happier. It cut with ease through the redwood I was working with. It has plenty of power to cut through just about any wood type you can come across. You can also change out the blade to cut items like masonry. I have been a fan of Frued blades for a while and was really glad this saw came with one already. The best part of this saw, coming from a sidwinder type saw..........is the blade on the left! I can finally cut in a straight line and see what I am doing. I would recommend this saw to anyone looking to upgrade their circular, for a few more bucks you get a higher quality saw that in many ways is easier to use.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Craftsman 7-1/4 Hypoid circular saw, !! POWERFUL!!

I've been needing another saw for sometime and with a deck building project in the works it was time to upgrade. I have always wanted a gear type saw with the blade on the left side, but they were always more than I wanted to pay for one. Everyone i looked at was at or over $300.00. I was looking to see what was on sale at Sears and found this one. It was on sale plus I had a coupon for an additional discount so it was a no brainer. I ordered on line and had it shipped to the local store, got an email informing me it was ready to pickup. I walked out of the store with a very good saw just over $100.00, Wow! It even came with a carbide blade. I have used it with joy. This thing is way better than i imagined, its just what i was wanting. The power of the saw is awesome, it rips through boards with ease. It's light and easy to handle, the adjustments for angles have big levers and you can change depth marks quick and easy with the pre-graduated marks on the depth gauge. No more needing a tape measure to get your depth. I highly recomend this saw, even if your a full-time builder this saw I think would stand up to everyday use. I should of bought two at this price.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Its been pretty good for me

Been using this saw for a little over a year and a half. Like any tool its not perfect but overall I would recomend it. Used a Makita hypiod for several years and like the Craftsman better. Its lighter than the Makita and thats what sold me on it. The deck on my saw is solid and the blade brake works good enough (that wasn't really a selling point though). The bevel lever on mine is also fine and has remained in tact even after the saw taking its share of falls. The cord is sturdy enough and the blade is just as easy to change out as any other saw. I can't say much about the fence it comes with because I have yet to use it. My only real gripe would be the little plastic thumb lever on the blade guard. It broke during shipping I guess. Sears sent me a new one no prob and I stuck it on there. It broke again a couple of days later in the middle of cutting with my thumb on it, the blade guard flipped back, and I lost a little flesh. I know I shouldn't be holding the guard up when cutting but hey, this is a review for the saw and not a list of my bad habbits. My saw has since been fitted with a custom built thumb lever thats much stronger and I have been really pleased everything else. If the price if a hypoid seems scary, then you probably don't need one. Just go with a $40 skill saw.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Horrible initial quality

I received this saw originally as a x-Mas present. The unit received had a broken handle so brought to Sears for an exchange. The second saw wound up sitting in its box for 3 months, had been traveling and had no time for projects. I finally got around to pulling it out of the box to give a test run only to realize the base plate is bent. Because of this, the saw can not set flush with the wood to be cut. Because of the delay in my finding the flaw in the saw, it's too late to return according to sears return policy. It's a shame as this has the potential to be a great saw, you can tell it has lots of power when pulling the trigger. The poor quality and lack of case make it a big loser though. Save yourself some time and money, pass this one up for another product.

Verrry Niiiice Craftsman Prof. Hypoid Saw.

The Craftsman Pro. 28195, 15amp Corded Hypoid Saw, Cuts Straight, Parallel and Square.

Used to make a tiled replacement tabletop for the shattered glass patio table
(also sears). Don't lean too heavy on these tables with holes for the umbrellas.
The saw made quick work of, sizing up the 1" multi-plywood.
I expected the blade to be a freud, but it is branded as Craftsman.
Nice thin curf.
It's difficult to check the blade for square directly, even misleading. I suspect
the base plate may be slightly un-square immediately centered beneath the blades shaft. The cut results were dead on square however. I may need to make a check plate base to check for square in the future.
The saw guide feels a little lightweight, but kept the 8' long cut straight and true with little effort.
I bought this to permanently replace a 30 year old, lighweight craftsman hand-me-down. This saw is heavier, stronger and better balanced. Nice thick and long cord.
I fully expect to hand this saw down to my son when the time comes.

Blade change is via Hex Key rather than wrench. Make sure you strap the key strongly to the cord, lest you need to replace the key.

Store stock is light to non-existent. Only one store had a single unit out of three Sacramento area stores. Might need to order this one.

Might be a little pricey, but I rarely hesitate whith this kind of quality.

a well polished ****

very strong motor and great blade sums up all of the positives . within a minute out of the box the blade guard handle crumbled off in my hand . litteraly . then i messed with the belvel adjustment only to have that break aswell . this product is very cheaply made chinese garbage buyer beware . its sad because craftsman used to represent american tools and quality . However now, as with many others, they have sacrificed quality to save a few dollars and send jobs overseas . cheap breaking chinese plastic is the result . off to makita or the all american (kind of ) Milwaukee with its great reviews and 5 yr warranty . talk about a company that stands behind its products .,,.,, try bringing jobs back to the US and quality back to your tools and perhaps you will bring this customer back to your tools but as for now.. ill pass thank you
