Craftsman Professional 3/4 hp Hydro-Glass Shallow Well Jet Pump August 18, 2010

Once again Craftsman has came through.  I replaced a 1/2 HP Craftsman water pump and Preasure tank Unknown brand with a Craftsman 3/4 HP waterpump and SIMS 35GAL tank.  This provides me with the primary means in getting water to my house.    I noticed the 1/4 HP difference between the pumps means a whole lot in how long the pump runs.   I have re adjusted the cut off - cut on to 30/50 over the manufacture preset due to my house was used to getting 20-40 and the new one came preset to 40-60.   Once the cut-on starts the pump runs approx 2 minutes and its back up to 50 PSI.    With the 1/2 HP pump, it ran for approx 8 minutes or so before reaching a 40 PSI.   Outstanding Shallow Water Pump.

Lasted only one year and 3 weeks. October 03, 2010

I installed this pump last September to replace a 1/2HP Craftsman pump that lasted two years.  After 13 months of normal use under normal conditions it has sprung a bad leak around the main seal seperating both halves of the pump.

Despite the fact that the pump looks metal, it is plastic!  After one year of 60PSI pressure the plastic warps to the point that the pump is irreperable without changing the entire casing.  So despite the fact that the pump is sitll under "parts" warranty, I don't have the time to wait around for Sears to fix it, nor do I want to pay a steep labor charge to fix something that is just going to fail again in a year.

If you want a pump that will run for a long while, buy one that is made out of steel/iron and not a Craftsman plastic pump that lacks a bolt-through design to tighten the housing around the gasket instead of the cheap band that is included.

Was easy to set up, changed the wiring was simple and it works great. A touch loud but outside and really cannot hear it.

    Pros:
    Longevity,Sears parts availability
    Cons:
Plastic impeller body,Not made in US anymore

We've been using a 1hp Sears Hydro-Glass pump for over 30 years (model 390-25130). Finally failed this week, probably a crack in impeller housing, but it has been getting awfully noisy. Will replace with this one. Only caveat is that the first one was made in US, and I assume this one will come from China. I can't imagine it will last 30 years.
