    Great compressor December 04, 2008

I've held out on writing a review for this compressor for 4 yrs since I've seen some pretty bad reviews right after I bought mine. Well, I'm very happy to say that I have used this compressor to the extreme quite a few times and this compressor has ran flawless for 4 straight year now and has yet to have 1 single problem. I would ( and have ) recommended this compressor quite a few times. I have many friends and family that are impressed with this compressor.

on third pump October 10, 2008

We are now on our third pump for this compressor. We've had this one since Feb. 2006 and it seems to be holding up just fine. We've done alot of sanding and body work with this one and so far no trouble. The first one blew oil all over the place and it went into the lines and everything. It wasn't pretty. The second one only lasted a couple of weeks before it blew oil everywhere too. Of course we had Sears come and replace both pumps under the replacement plan. I would advise anyone purchasing this compressor to get the replacement plan. Otherwise it's been a great compressor and has kept up great with the air demand that I have put on it doing the sanding and painting that I have done with it. When it doesn't blow oil, it's a great compressor.

Not for heavy use August 11, 2010

Had this rig for 5 years now.  Mine blew the head gasket like so many others have complained about.

Good thing is Sears has parts.  I did a little modification to the valve plate that sits on top of the pump block and under the head.  The infterface between the valve plate and block between the cylinders is where the head gasket fails.  On the bottom side of the valve plate is a groove for the crank case to breath and vent into the intake.  The metal that contacts the head gasket and pressed it into the crank case between cylinders is too thin because of the groove cut in the valve plate.

What I did is take a Dremel tool and cut the groove out wide enough so I could put a piece of 1/8" brass tubing in it.  Used epoxy as a filler to make it flush and flat.  Cured the epoxy in the oven.  Replaced blown head gasket and it runs fine now and has for several years.

Made for Sears by DeVilbiss - it has a design flaw and that's very unlike Sears or DiVilbiss.

An outstanding compressor! July 27, 2010

For YEARS, we (our youngest son and I) worked with small "hobby" compressors with limited pressure and CFM. We knew what we wanted was a compressor with 9+ CFM at 100+ psi to run air powered impact guns, air ratchet's, air grinders, and inflate tires. We found this one on sale and bought it. We've never looked back as it has MORE than enough CFM and pressure to handle any air powered needs we have. I also wanted a vertical storage tank so that it had the smallest footprint so it didn't take up a lot of floor space and this fit the bill perfectly!

We change the oil in it every year and drain the tank every day (before bolting the compressor tank to the floor, I installed a 1/4 turn valve in the bottom of the tank that I "kick" open and closed every time I walk by it!). I believe that this (and any tool for that matter) that is properly maintained will last a lifetime.

    Cons:
Only lasted about a year.,cheap design

Have owned compressor for 3 years now and I am going to have to replace head gaskets on compressor for the third time. The only good thing about this compressor is the paint job.  It is without a doubt the biggest piece of ****  for an air compressor.  I have read several other reviews where other people have had the same problem as myself.  It seems like craftsman would own up to this piece of **** and do a recall or something.  I will only bash craftsman from now on for not recalling or even repairing.
