    Craftsman Professional Workbench Delivers! March 13, 2011

    I have been using this workbench for several months, and continue to remain impressed by the quality and functionality. The work surface is a perfect height for standing, or siting on a Craftsman Stool.

    There is storage in the legs of the bench, which stores spray paint cans and other items easily.

    This unit is heavy, but I was able to complete the assembly job on my own. Once assembled, have a buddy help move the unit to it's final destination.

    Overall, I'm happy with this unit, and am considering adding a 5' unit to the other side of my workshop.

    big let down February 20, 2008

    I had to drill and tap the two adjustable feet holes on one leg, as they were way too small. I could have brought the unit back, but I chose to just fix it. This is a major quality control issue for me. Also, the Craftsman logo sticker was put on crooked. Now that it is together, I'm satisfied. However, for something that says "Professional" on it, it definitely is not.

    Craftsman Professional 8 ft. Workbench - Black, we have two of the 31" cabinets on either side of this workbench, it is very sturdy and is a great work station. We bought the larger cabinets first and the quality was great, so we bought the rest of the pieces a bit at a time. Love this series. Very nice looking.

    First of all this is a very heavy/long workbench so make sure you have a truck. Would'nt fit in my Yukon. I expected the workbench to be pre-drilled for assembly but I guess Professional Series means you should have the ability to drill and measure.. Assembly was a little more time consuming than I thought it would be due to the measuring and squaring of the unit. Once done I was very pleased. This is a long, tall, heavy, well constructed unit. It's tall enough to stand and work at which I consider a pro not con.

    I purchased the workbench for my man cave to have room to assemble models, work on my hot rods, etc.

    It came very well packaged, but ridiculously heavy as the work surface was included in the same box as the legs, stiffener rails, and all the hardware. It definitely takes 2 to load/unload and to get it set up where you want it. Perhaps in the future, the bench and the top could be separate.

    The instructions were very clear and concise as to assembly, and the bench went together with no problems at all.  It's very sturdy with no wobbliness.

    I also purchased the optional butcher-block top (I have the mdf top if anyone's interested), which is very nice. Even though the bench is inside, the butcher block takes it to the next level of "Professional", and I look forward to seeing how it holds up to Xacto knives, spilled paint, and various other damages.

    Finally, I also purchased the optional 5-drawer storage system. This is much more of a problem than the workbench was. Since the leg (left or right) on the bench is used as one of the sides of the drawer system, I would expect the leg(s) on the bench to be designed to work hand-in-hand with the drawers. They're not. As a matter of fact, they're completely different, and I'm at a standstill until I hear back from Craftsman as to the compatability of the non-Professional workbench legs with the Professional workbench.

    Summary:

    Pros: Tons of working space, even after I loaded up my paints, tools, and supplies, and got the first model spread out

    Heavy duty, and well made

    Cons: Heavy due to the consolidation of packaging.

    Incompatible with any other Craftsman storage system, and no mention of this fact either online or by the associate in the store.

    Very tall work surface.  If you're expecting to roll over an office chair, think again. You're forced to buy one of the stools, unless you plan to stand while you work.
