    Start with this, then buy the tools! December 21, 2010

    I recently decided to start building my own tool set. This item was a must-have to keep everything in its place, and provide a place for everything. If your tool chest drawers are not already lined, be sure to purchase drawer liners as well as this. I actually bought this as a Christmas gift for a co-worker, then ended up buying one for myself.

    Good for shallow sockets, not for deep sockets February 15, 2011

    The major problem with the Socket Organizer Tray is there are locations for sockets that Sears doesn't make: as far as I can tell, no company makes a lot of these sockets. You need two sets - one for shallow and one for deep sockets. First, the tray for your shallow sockets, there are not many extra socket locations in this tray, and most of them you can fill with other brand sockets. However, if you use this tray to organize deep sockets is another story as the trays are practical empty. I would not suggest this product for organizing deep sockets, buy one set for your shallow sockets and pegs for your deep. As other reviewers have noted, some sockets don't fit, but this is a very easy fix, just run a file around the hole and enlarge it slightly. I did this and it worked perfectly. On the space concerns, I would say it is worth purchasing a tray for your shallow sockets: the trays are sleek, easy to read and I like that the socket sizes are raised off the tray, which makes locating sockets very quick and easy.

    I got a set of these drawer organizers a couple of years ago. They fit fairly well into the drawers of a bottom tool chest, but they are too short to fit into an intermedite chest. The other problem was that I have only one drawer for my sockets and drive wrenches. Basically they take up too much room for the way I have my toolbox organized. I solved the problem by using several of the strip type socket organizers so I can get more tools into the same drawer. This would be an excellent organizer for the person with the room in the bottom roll-away for organizing a set of sockets and wreenches. I would recommend this, but with caveats.

    These plastic trays drop in your chest drawers and you fill them up - fairly simple. I use 3/8 & 1/4 99% of the time - the 1/2 tray that came with this set is still in the box since I didn't want to dedicate 1/2 a drawer for 16 1/2 sockets. These trays make finding and returning sockets really nice. Most of my sockets are not the 'easy read' type so it's nice to have the marked try in my cabinet. If you're a tool fanatic this may not be for you - if there are any open holes you may find that you want to go buy the missing sockets so the drawer looks complete!

    Craftsman Socket Organizer Set I have used for years and have past this onto my son who also swears by this product. It repairing his 1970 Mustang or performing tashs around the house, I can't think of a better set of tools and organizer to replace what I have
