Better Than Most
This charger should operate for many years. A nice, no non-sense charger. Perfect for most jobs. No lights, no bells, no whistles. Only one switch to fail. The price is right. I have used it for several hours and it is very quiet. I have a need for 10 amps only so I do not plan to use the switch but the 2 amp setting does operate. The unit runs warm but not hot to the touch. I am using this charger to maintain the state of charge in a deep cycle battery bank. The meter on this charger seems hearty...not high quality, but again, the meter on this charger is better than the meter found on most other 25 dollar battery chargers.
This is my first Sears branded charger in many years. I figured Sears' stuff has usually been good over the years. Once again, Sears has picked up a good product line. Good value.
Only one problem, I don't like the 16 gauge 12 volt wire.
I will admit I have not seen a basic charger, in many years, with battery cables larger than 16 gauge (I have seen MANY with thinner wiring, dangerous in my opinion) so I am not surprised.
Don't get me wrong, at 10 amps, 16 gauge wiring is safe for the operation of this charger and all that, but the engineers always design for cost and copper is not cheap. Heat is a killer of electrical devices and a bit more conductivity would help eliminate this heat build up in the wiring and connectors.
I am still hoping, someday...
Otherwise, this is a good deal, I would seriously consider buying a second but the first unit will probably out last me...seriously@! But then again...
Anyway, as soon as I am done with this review I am installing an internal fan and replacing the battery wiring with a bit larger wiring. (I am toying with chargers to find the correct fit for another project I am working on and this is probably it!)
There goes the warranty on this unit...along with the 16 gauge cables. Kids, don't try this at home.
If you are simply looking to recharge a battery, this is a great value and may be the last charger you will ever need to buy.
I don't write many reviews but I thought I would take time for this item. Thanks for supplying a good product, again...Sears!

Good quality but there are better deals at Sears
This charger has worked as promised, But at about $45,
there are better chargers available from Sears.
The specs mention "spark protection" in automatic mode, except
this charger is listed a manual. For the same price, or slightly more, you can get a Diehard charger with fully automatic operation,
and trickle charge, which is good for smaller, 12 volt batteries

Great for small batteries and completely dead batteries
I bought because my automatic charger would not charge the small battery on my mower or motorcycle (it would say battery was full charge). It also gets completely dead batteries to start charging faster then my automatic charger.
I would recommend this product to a friend.

Sears Battery Charger
The charger is a pretty good one. I'd give it a 7 of 10. Use it for charging boat batteries. Have no issues with it. If you are charging multiple batteries I suggest you use the same charger. Noticed it was not as good as the digital charger (also a Sears Brand). Still very good for the money.

die hard battery charger
Works great. Charges quickly, but you have to check on it. It is NOT an automatic battery charger, hence the reason it has MANUAL on the packaging. Never leave any charger unattended overnight. when charging just leave it alone by not keep trying to turn it on a lil after you connected it .
