    poorly made appliance

    After owning this cooktop for 3 years the stainless steal trim around the cooktop started to come off, one of the knobs broke off, and one of the larger burners would come on and off automatically.  Not only is it a fire hazard it won't last.  DON"T BUY!!!

    Control Knob Shorted Out-Fire Hazard

    If possible, I would give this a -5 star rating.  One of the control units (knobs) shorted out and almost caused a fire.  Sears wanted to replace the burned out control unit but we wouldn't risk it.  I would strongly recommend that you DON'T BUY THIS UNIT!  Putting one in your kitchen could be a recipe for disaster.  Checking the Consumer Product Safety website, I found several other Fridgeadair units (maker of the Electrolux) with similar knob controls recalled due to this fire hazard.  It surprised me that the Electrolux ICON units were not included in the recall list.  We've filed complaints with both Consumer Product Safety and Electrolux about this unit.

    SEARS SHOULD NOT SELL THIS UNIT OR ANY UNIT THAT USES THESE CONTROL KNOBS!!  THEY ARE RISKING A MAJOR LIABILITY ISSUE IF THEY CONTINUE TO SELL THIS UNIT!!

    In about 16 month period, we had it replaced 4 times. Good thing we had the master protection agreement. Otherwise, it would have costed aprx $1100 for each replacement. With several overflows, the frame around the cooktop disconnects from the glass. I would not recommend this item. Other than that, it actully is a pretty strong unit. It performs well and quick. Loved that about this item.
