Easy to use when cutting PVC Pipe.
I have had this cutter for a while now. I got it when I was doinjg some outside plumbing that required cutting a lot of 1-1/4" PVC Shd 40 pipe. It made cutting the pipe much easier especialy when the pipe was down in a trench and I could not use the standard circular type of pipe cutter. It has a permantent place in my "Go Box" of plumbing tools. When cutting in the middle of the pipe it seems to cut fairly straight. When trimming the end of a pipe it seems that the cut is slightly off square. Not enough to compomise the joint you will be glueing, but still noticable. Mine is branded Sears, but it is the same tool and has the same part number as this Empire PVC Cutter. It is made in China. Four Stars for not always making a square cut. If I ever need to, I will buy one again, no matter what the brand is.

Pefect for my needs.
These are great! I used them for a little project around the house. I was building some guitar stands out of pvc and needed to make quick cuts to speed things along. These cutters were fast and made clean cuts most of the time, overall they served their purpose well.

works well on 3/4" pvc, but not always square
As with many ratcheting PVC cutters it saves time and there is no shavings from using a saw. Works good when cutting pipe in tight spaces. Does not always cut perfectly square, but I have experienced this with other PVC cutters so I expect it is typical. It is still close enough to square for most PVC socket connections. A miter saw produces a much better square cut if that is a requirement but does make a good deal more mess.

The Empire PVC Cutter works great and is easy to use.
In the past I used a hack saw on all my PVC projects (which did the job), but the cuts weren't the straightest and needed a fair amount of cleanup with sandpaper to remove the burrs and ruff edges left behind by the saw blade. I was working on a small PVC project (a dozen cuts in 1" PVC) and decided I wanted a reasonably priced PVC cutter with decent performance to make the job easier. I didn't want to spend crazy $$ for a tool that would only get occasional use and came across several reviews on the Empire PVC cutter (they were all positive). I picked up the tool and was amazed at how easily it cut through 1" SCH 40 PVC. You just unlock the tool, spread the handles to open the blade, place the pipe in the jaws, slowly squeeze the ratcheting handles and it cuts right through in 5 or 6 squeezes (Easy Easy Easy). It didn't require a lot of strength to operate and the cuts were clean with NO burrs! I gave this a solid 4+ stars as it worked flawlessly for me. I would have given it 5 stars, but I only used it for a small project and don't know how it will perform over time. The only weak part of this tool would be the blade as indicated in reviews for similar PVC cutters.

Solid construction and easy to use.
This is a well built tool and cuts through plastic pipe easily. I would highly recommend it. The only down side is that the blade has to be pulled open which is actually a small problem.

Excellent cutter, Excellent price.
I bought this to cut CPVC, does an excellent job, slices right thru easily with very little effort, holds pipe squarely for a true cut. Due to bottom jaw being joined at end, making a one piece lower jaw, blade slices right thru with no twristing. I love it, best gadget I bought for the money, saves a lot of time and effort.
I would recommend this product to a friend.
