Easy to Use 750 Drill Doctor
I have lots of old drill bits, and hated the thought of getting new bits, since all of mine were so dull. I bought the drill doctor 750, and read the manual, and watched the included DVD video. After that, I was off and running. The unit comes with a chuck to hold bits, and three wells on the grinder. the first well is the "alignment well" where you get the bit to right depth and rotation to match the chuck. There are little springs to twist the bit into the right position which take some practice to get right. The 750 model includes a "take off" adjustment to allow you to control how much steel is removed from the bits. The second well is the sharpening well. You turn on the device and place the chuck in the well and spin the chuck an even number of times to get both sides of the bit. I turn mine till the grinding noise is really quiet, then I stop (about 6 turns). The third well is the "split point" well if you want self-centering bits. The first well has settings for many different bit angles, but I use 135 degrees for steel drilling. I found this unit is vital for drilling heavy stock. I don't know how I put up with dull bits before. Works great. the included grinding wheel and chuck is good for up to 1/2 inch bits. they also carry a coarse wheel and larger chuck for 1/2 to 3/4 bits. I think I will get those too. the fine grinding wheel is good for about 200 sharpenings, and replacement stones are about twenty bucks.

Unfortunately my unit did not work as advertised. While the grinder did function it did not properly cut the drill bit in the geometry required. The bit simply would not cut metal. I am convinced I did it according to instruction and I operate a machine shop where I thought this unit would save a little time by giving us a well sharpened bit every time. Instead I spent a lot of effort trying to figure out what I was doing wrong and finally had to conclude that the machine was either defective or just does not work. I have gone back to eye balling it on the grinder and have concluded that I do a pretty good job of it.
To make matters worse the sales manager had to approve the return and attempted to charge me a 15 % restocking charge saying that I had the unit for thirty days. (27) I raised a ruckas and he took that off. I am not happy.

The perfect drill sharpener
The Drill Doctor DD750XX is the sharpener I've been searching for over the past few years. I am an avid do-it-yourselfer and car guy. I am always finding myself neding to drill many holes on many of my projects. I am in constant need of having the means to re-sharpen drills. I have been using a 30 year old Craftsman sharpener that is having problems and is no longer made. It was an old industrial quality sharpener and served me well all these years. I have looked at a number of possible replacements, but none offered that range of sizes I needed or were constructed in such a manner that it would consistently produce a quality point. The Drill Doctor gives me what I have been looking for. The DD750X is well constructed and is extremely well engineered so that it will easily produce a high quality re-sharpened point. I am very impressed and believe that this tool will give me years of use. I would recommend it to anyone who requires more than just an occasional re-sharpening job.

I've wanted one of these for years so today I broke down and got one. I brought it home, watched the video and glanced through the manual. And then I put it to the test again and again and again until I had sharpened every drill in my shop. Once you get the hang of it this thing is nice.

Easy to use and performs great
Only read the instruction book. With in two minutes had new three quarter inch bit. That alone saved me $58 on a new bit. Very easy to get set and get started. Sharpened a broke half inch bit. Started it with a grinder to save on my grinding wheel. It sharpened it like new. If there is a lot of material to take off all you have to do is reset and go again. Tried the split point feature works good. Tried a few bits in some quarter inch metal and was very impressed on how they drilled. I figured it saved me so far around a $100 if i was to replace all my dull or broken bits that i just sharpened. It also doesn't get the bits as hot as a bench grinder would.

If you're hard on drill bits, this tool is a must.
I tend to be hard on drill bits so I decided to buy this tool. The instructions are easy to understand and operatimg the Drill Doctor is a snap. I had broken the tip off my 1/8" bit. But after several turns of the bit in the sharpener, I had a new bit.

Drill Doctor 750X is an excellent tool to have
The Drill Doctor 750X is a well built little machine that every shop should have. I had several drill bits in various sizes that needed sharpening and i did them all in a few minutes. setup is quick and easy but the one thing i didnt like was the coarse grinding wheel would leave a rough surface on the drill bit when finished sharpening, i like to see a nice smooth surface. also the instruction manual is small and should be bigger with larger pictures that explain the steps to operate it. Overall its a great machine that is even kind of fun to operate. Machine is well constructed of plastic and metal. Included DVD instructions are a plus and made operating much easier to understand. Blow molded case keeps everything secure.
