The Footprint Low Angle Plane is an ok value
I purchased this plane because I have owned other Footprint products in the past. The older tools that I own I feel are a better quality tool. When I opened the box it had a good heft to it, but I could tell it would need some work. I disassembled the tool and started on the sole. It was faily flat so I was able to start with 220 grit sand paper on glas and spent about 2 hours takeing it to 600 grit. With the sole flat, I started on the blade. Footprint still makes a good quality iron and it was faily flat. It was easy to sharpen properly. The cam leaver, and cap is another story.It took some time to flaten the cap, and I feel that the leaver should be beefier. I ended up usingVHB two sided tape on the disk to keep the unit firm and set. To be fair I have owned a few Stanley planes and other than the lever lock I go through the same process whith them also. I feel that this is an ok for the value, due to the fact that it is always in my pocket and gets used constantly. I am a professional wood worker, and have been for over 30 years. Learn to tune your tools, and keep them sharp and they will make your life, and job much better.
