Those benefits were not conditioned on the positive or negative content of the review.
I have never purchased a washer and dryer before, so I did a lot of research before settling for this washer and the matching dryer. I read the negative reviews and decided the sale price was too good ($379) to not give it a try (I mean, I could return it if my experience was as bad as that of the customers who gave it a 1 star review). I purchased my machines at the end of May and do laundry for a family of 4 (about 8 to 10 loads per week). I have found some positives and some negatives since using this machine for about a month. The pros: 1. Incredible capacity! I can wash twice as many towels as I could with my old machine; not to mention the loads with either 2 sets of king sheets or a set of queen with a set of double and a set of twin sheets. 2. The machine runs very quietly in the wash and spin cycles with little to no vibration. 3. My clothes come out very clean. I was hesitant to make this purchase when I read the reviews from other consumers who felt the clothes still came out of the washer stained, but I have always pre-treated any stains in my laundry. So I do not have this problem. 4. I can choose to let the machine fill the water level, or select the load size myself. I love that I do not have to rely on the machine to select the proper water level, but can if I want to. 5. There are many wash cycles to meet all of my needs. The sheets/towels cycle soaks the load as part of the cycle. 6. There are some additional cycles...soak, additional rinse, etc. 7. I can select the water temp regardless of which wash cycle I choose. 8. The 700 rpm spin removes a lot of water so that the drying time is greatly reduced.
The Cons: 1. The water level is very low in the the auto-fill mode. I know this is a feature of the HE technology, but it will take some time for me to get accustomed to it. I like having a fuller water level. 2. The machine does not fill the tub to rinse. I was very concerned about this at first because my children have sensitve skin and one of the simplest ways to avoid issues is to ensure that their clothes are rinsed well after a wash. I have had no issues since I began washing with this machine. (so pro or con?) I still prefer a filled tub for rinsing, but we are managing ok for now. 3. The machine may be quiet in the wash and spin cycles, but it makes very strange noises during the draining (kind of sounds like a turbine). It takes time to get used to. 4. The bleach dispenser seems to hold onto a little bleach from the previous load. This is a big deal to me, as it has caused stains in a couple of my daughters clothes. I have stopped using this feature and instead add bleach to the tub when needed. I have a technician coming out to check on this, so I hope it can be repaired. 5. The clothes do get twisted, causing more wrinkles than I saw from my previous machine. Even the heat of the dryer does not remove all of them. This is the biggest con for me, as I DO NOT like to iron! 6. I have had 1 article of clothing pulled apart in the machine, a nightie for my daughter that had thin straps. I think it was already coming undone at the seam, so the maching just helped it along...a lot. And another similar item was caught around the agitator. I will just be sure to put items like this into a laundry bag in the future. Overall, for me, the pros outweigh the cons. I can work around many of the things I do not like, and in the end, the machine does what I really need it to do - clean our clothes.
July 26, 2012 - Update...regarding some of the cons discussed above.
1. There is nothing to be done about the bleach dispenser...it simply empties the bleach into the tub during the fill cycle. So I will continue to add it to the tub once the water level is full (this is what I would do if there was no dispenser, and it wasn't one of the necessary features for me to beging with).
2. The 'Power Rinse' cycle in the optional cycles does fill the tub for a rinse...so if you do not like the spray rinse of the normal cycles you can always select this option. The only drawback to this solution is it adds time to the already long cycle time (but is good to know I have the option).
Overall, I still like this machine and would recommend it.
I give 3 stars for the machine itself, but Sears service has been abysmal. As far as the washing machine goes, it is a basic unit and it cleans well. I've had the machine about 3 months. It has eaten some of my clothes - it bent the clasp on a bra, it tore one of the straps on a cami, and I've had the arms of cardigans and similiar items wrapped around the bottom of the agitator. I get more lint than with my old front loader. Wrinkles that used to fall out when I dried my pants are now set in unless I sprinkle them with water after the wash, before I put them in the dryer. But clothes come out cleaner than they used to with my previous front loader so it's a fair trade off I'd say. This unit is much cheaper than my front loader so if it breaks it's less of a loss.
I give SEARS one star for service. My list of complaints with purchasing from SEARS is long and varied. I'll give the highlights. I had a limited time for delivery before going on vacation. I wanted clean clothes before I went. The sales rep messed up the credit (for my original machine warranty) when he keyed in the order and somehow on rekeying, delivery didn't get set up. I took time off from work and delivery didn't happen. I called to complain, they called in some outside contractor to do the delivery for the next day, and he called the day of with a tire blowout and said he couldn't make it. He offered to do a special Sunday delivery...but he was a no show. So 3 missed deliveries!! Eventually I got the machine but my old washer was not hauled away due to problems arising from it being stacked with the dryer. I was supposed to call back for that. Which brings me to my current situation. On top of everything else, I've since discovered that the hot and cold water connections are backwards and that I get hot when I put it on the cold settings and vice versa.
I've called twice for the pickup and the connection fix. Each time I call I get transferred to multiple departments and have to explain the situation to each person, and give my phone number, address, to each person. Each time they've told me I'd get a phone call confirming a time within 48 hours, and each time I've had no call, while I've sat at home all day on the slim hope that they'll come anyway. I'm on hold as I type - it's my third phone call and I'm on the phone with the third representative. I've asked them for some kind of tracking number confirming that the work order was keyed in - I'm told they don't have anything like that. I've asked for a name and a contact number that I can follow up with if it doesn't go through a third time - they can't do that either. I have very little confidence that this will be resolved.
I strongly urge other buyers to beware - SEARS has been highly unreliable and inconvenient to deal with.

We've had this thing for only 3 weeks and a jet in the garage would be quieter by comparison. It also is leaving bleach marks, which you would think the dispenser would prevent. In the past, doing laundry was a pleasant experience, but now we try to be out of the house while it runs.

Love this washer!! I purchased an LG Washer first, which was faulty, received a second LG which was also faulty. Sears was great with replacing the bad washers. I am so happy with this one...no more wrinkled clothes and no issues. The washer is a little noisy but this is okay with me as long as my clothes are clean. It is easy to use and has a nice size tub. Water temp is perfect every time. Forget the digital washers, this one is so simple and gets the job done!!!! And American made!!!

At first I loved this washer, however, after only 6 months it needed a new motor and control board. Sears repair technicians don't carry parts with them and so the parts had to be ordered which added another week to the time without a washer. Then not all the parts were sent so add another week. I only own appliances I have purchased from Sears and I am very disappointed in the whole ordeal. So glad I purchased the extended warranty I almost didn't because I have had so few problems with products purchased from Sears in the past. I guess I can't count on Sears for quality products anymore.

Haven't had but 5 months and it is acting up. It doesn't always cover everything with water and when it spins it starts knocking very LOUDLY!!!!! We pause it and make sure it is balanced it that doesn't help one bit, it still knocks very loudly! Just another piece of Sears junk!!

I purchased this GE washer in Nov. 2012, after Hurricane Sandy and was pleased with it until the end if December when the machine started leaking water from underneath during the spin cycle. I had the repairman determine that it was damaged and I would receive a new one. The newer machine was delivered on Jan. 4th and once again my life doing laundry returned to normal.....that is until yesterday, March 13th...when it started leaking water from underneath like the first one. Needless to say, I will not get this machine again. I went to Sears to see what would be done because the replacement warranty is only 60 days from the date when the original washer was purchased not the most recent one and I clearly did not want this new machine repaired. After a long two hours in the store, I was able to replace the washer and dryer (since it was the match from GE) with a different brand... I had to pay the upgrade and my delivery is scheduled for tomorrow. I am keeping my hopes up this time

This is the second washing machine of this model that I have purchased with in the year. The first one I purchased was for my mom & brother & they love it Great features & works well. Hard to get used to the low volume of water the machines uses .Still trying to learn the amount of soap to use as the Tide Pods don't seem to be enough soap. All in all this is a very good machine.

I received my washer on 3/2/2013 and tub won't agitate. I followed directions and completed 2 empty speed cycles. I tried a small load with only my fabric softener ball inside. It confirmed the tub was not agitating because I could not hear the fabric softener ball banging around. Now I have to wait to swap out for another new washer. Hoping the next one won't do the same thing! I had my last GE for 12 years. They don't make them like that anymore.
