Intended for indoor use only, this single pole, in-wall, motion activated switch detects movement or motion and automatically activates lighting or appliances for a specified amount of time. Popular, "decora-style" design matches almost any home decor. A built-in photocell is used to prevent the switch from activating lighting when there is already enough present, such as ambient light coming into a room through a window. General Electrics 57884 has an adjustable sensitivity and is extremely reliable. It has one of the largest detection ranges possible for this design. The motion detector is much more sensitive to motion moving across the front of the sensor or perpendicular, than motion moving toward the sensor. This motion detector senses heat in motion and very fast temperature changes from a visible heat source. In order to avoid false triggers, do not install this switch facing a area containing air conditioners, heaters, and other sources of heat or cold.
