> Celebrating five years of Heroes at Home collaboration with Rebuilding Together, Sears kicked off its spring Heroes at Home fundraising program on April 29 in all Sears stores. Donate today through July 28 when you check out, to assist Rebuilding Together in modifying the homes of military families in need of modifications to their homes.

> Sears Holdings recently committed to increasing hiring veterans by 10% over the next year...and has been living up to its word. Since August alone we have hired more than 900 veterans-nearly twice as many as we hired in all of last year. Sears Holdings has one of the most generous standards for military pay. For any Sears employee who serves in the military, we maintain their civilian pay and benefits throughout their call of duty. The song, based on the winning entry from the Sears "Portraits of Heroes" song contest, reflects a young war widow's story and her commitment to keeping her husband's memory alive. > We are proud to announce Seana A. of Clarksville, TN as the winner of our national Heroes at Home "Portraits of Heroes" song contest with Josh Gracin. Seana shared her powerful story about her military spouse's dedication to service and her commitment to keeping his memory alive. Seana will join Josh in the recording studio in Nashville later this month as he turns her touching story into a personalized song, which he will ultimately perform at the Rockin' for the Troops concert in Wheaton, Ill. on July 16.

Hugo Gonzalez

In 2004, Hugo Gonzales, then a specialist in the U.S. Army, was stationed in Baqubah, about 30 miles northeast of Baghdad and the location of heavy guerrilla activity. During a patrol, his vehicle was struck by an imporvised explosive device, or IED. Hugo suffered head trauma from several pieces of shrapnel that has left his right eye blind and left eye damaged. Hugo has limited vision out of his left eye, and depth perception problems, but he’s legally blind. He also suffers from migraines, epilepsy and post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of his injuries.
