Hitachi  21.1 cc Gas Line Trimmer

Light weight and powerful

Works well, great warrantee. Cheaper than some others for what you get. I don't do a lot of trimming, and if I did I would want to get the strap - it is pretty heavy. Comfortable and easy to use - cuts through anything. Only problem yet - the gas line hose broke (less than 5 moths of use). Was easy to fix as the line was long, and I just pulled it out a little and reattached it. I think I will have to replace it in the near future, as it will probably happen again...

Had trimmer just 13 months with light use. But, the use doesn't matter when the simplest of parts are faulty. The fuel line from the priming bulb to engine is ruined. The engine will not run. This product should have been recalled. I have now read the same issue on multiple review sites.  You will need your warranty if you buy this product. I will start calling while my weeds continue to grow.

I bought the Hitachi last September and already have a blown fuel line. Other than that...it's a good trimmer.

I bought a Craftsman straight shaft weed whacker and found several things about it I simply did not like. I selected it based on it's features and engine size which seemed important. After returning it, I looked for the highest ratings and came across this Hitachi model and good thing I did. FOrget about the 21.1 cc engine size! IT si simply a great machine and all the reviews are correct about little vibration, noise and performance. Love it!

We recently purchased this at Sears and are so happy we did. After doing much research we decided on the Hitachi Gas Line Trimmer and have not regretted it. My husband said it is easy to use and gets the job done. He is very impressed, which impresses me.

Like many others who have written to Hitachi forums, I found that the fuel lines to and from the priming bulb only last a few months. They are not gasoline resistant and fall to pieces after a short time. Without the hoses the engine will not run. The local Hitachi service center would not return my calls so the "7-year warranty" is of no value with this problem. I went to my local auto parts store and bought fuel hose, which I cut to length to replace Hitachi's. I would not recommend this product to anyone who was not comfortable doing small engine repair.

I read many reviews before choosing a weedwacker this time. I heard enough negative experiences with too many issues involving subpar equipment. I also know first hand how frustrating it can be to be all ready to get some work done and you just can't get what you need started no matter how hard you try. On top of it I've been the lucky owner of one of the best Craftsman brushwacker models ever made. I've been using it for 12+ years, it started way easier than my friend's Shindaiwa and was a total beast. That is a few of the main reasons I decided to give this Hitachi a shot. Like my Craftsman, it is a smaller motor yet reviews claimed it was also surprisingly powerful. People also raved about how easy it is to start. I have used it a handful of times already and it is quite easy to start as reviewed. The power is sufficient but based on the reviews I read, I was hoping it would be closer to my old brushwacker. The grip is a little on the cheesy side but will do for normal yardwork. I decided to change it for something that allows for better range. All in all, in consideration of the price tag, this piece of machinery is a terrific value.

I had my previous Ryobi trimmer for over 10 years, but it finally went kaput.  I questioned the ability of this Hitachi at 21.1 cc to do the same job, but with consumer reports giving it a great rating thought I would give it a chance.

Seemed ok out of the box, but it was immediately apparent that it was underpowered, even for a small/medium yard.  Upon second use of the trimmer, it started vibrating badly after 30 minutes of use, and the shaft near the end felt like it was on fire.  Maybe I got a lemon with a shaft problem, but it continued to do this the next 2 times I used it, making it both a long process to trim, but also very frustrating.

Called Sears to send it back, which they approved, however at my cost.  Bad experience with Hitachi, which will be my last experience with a Hitachi product.  Based on my experience, I would definitately not recommend.
