What you would expect from Jenn Air. Bravo!

I recently replaced a 20 year old Jenn Air down-draft electric with a new Jenn Air LP gas downdraft unit.  Conversion to LP was a breeze.  I wish the new design had the set screws to fasten like the old model.  The 3 speed downdraft fan works great.  I've installed and used many cooktops and believe this unit is both a great value and performs with the best.

Looks good but sucks in flame when exhaust is on. Read my whole

It looks good but little tough to clean. One main disadvantage is that It sucks in Flame when the exhaust is on towards the vent no matter what speed and as a result uneven heating while cooking. There is a design flaw and apparently Jen air won't accept this. But when Sears tech called Jen-Air,  the they said that it is a known issue with this cook top. I can clearly see that there is a design flaw. There is a gap between the center grill and the body of the cook top and that exhaust is pulling flame from there. The work around they gave was to put in 3 more filters and that did not work either. I am sure it can be easily fixed by putting in some silicon washer around it. Hopefully they will come up with that in the future until then I will not buy this. I am returning this and getting a Kenmore Elite 36 inch down draft. I will write a review on that after it is installed. I would suggest you thinking twice before buying this until they fix that problem. Also don't get carried away by their online Ad in their Web site as I did.

Very poor build quality

Very poor build quality. The first unit arrived with a dent on the corner. The first replacement unit arrived with bent control knobs, warped sheet metal top, several loose screws and a stripped bolt on the blower motor housing. Still waiting for the 2nd replacement unit. The build quality reminds me of a 1970's Chevrolet Vega - very poor. Way overpriced for what it is. Even the sales people try to steer customers away from Jenn-Air appliances. The grates are very difficult to clean because they are not porcelain covered. The only reason we chose Jenn-Air is because the kitchen previously had Jenn-Air, and I didn't want to spend more money modifying the kitchen for a different brand. I strongly urge you to pick a different brand if you can.

Great cooktop

We recently replaced our black modular Jenn-Air cooktop model JGD8130 with JGD3430WS - as part of our kitchen update - we had to stay with a 30" downdraft unit. The new stainless cooktop is solid, well made, has beautiful style and is easy to maintain. I find the burners perfectly placed with the 17,500 btu high power burner front left for large pots of boiling liquids etc, the simmer burner front right and two 12,500 btu burners in the rear. The knobs are nice quality and the sealed burners and auto re-ignition features are great. We previously owned two Jenn-Air JGD8130 - loved the ability to grill indoors. Since there haven't been model upgrades to the modular unit since at least 1990, we decided to fore-go the convenience of indoor grilling for higher power burners and stainless construction with JGD3430WS. I'm an avid and experienced cook and would highly recommend this downdraft cooktop. We always purchase an extended warranty. Working with Sears on the purchase was a very positive experience. Jenn-Air currently offers an installation rebate - so that was a nice perk.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Outstanding cooktop for the smaller space

We had really wanted to replace the crummy old cooktop the house same with, but the choices for a 30" gas cooktop with a downdraft vent were very limited. When we looked again recently we were impressed with the specs of this unit, so we bought it. The installers were great, and the unit went in without a hitch. We are extremely happy with the new cooktop - it's versatile, easy to clean, cooks amazingly evenly, and the downdraft works extremely well.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Jenn-Air cook top broke after the first 20 minutes of use

The fan failed after the first 20 minutes of use.  Still waiting for service call.  Three speed fan has only one speed.  Very disappointed on the quality.

Only had a few days but....

Even on low it Seems like the fan is to powerful and sucks the flame and the heat down.  Kind of loud even on low.  The burners don't have much fluctuation between high and low.  Love the stainless steel and that the burners light automatically, but I am still trying to get use to which knob operates which burner and it's hard to tell where the the knob is actually set on the dial.  There is no dot except for a notch that marks the selection but it's on the side of the knob.  Seems like I always have them on high anyway no matter which burner I use.  Hope it gets better

The 3 speed fan appears to have only one speed, oversight maybe?

Overall the cooktop has performed to spec with the exception of the exhaust fan. I called Jenn air about this and the respose I recieved was because the fan is quiet it's operating normaly. I don't buy it, and unless I can see some test data to bear this out the only conclusion I can come to is they pulled this answer right out their, well you know. One more thing, this cook top looks great in the kitchen, but it is hard to keep clean, windex seems to work well with a paper towel on light stains and grease, for something heavier I'm not sure.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Beautiful cooktop but burners are in the wrong place

We needed a 30 inch cooktop with a downdraft. I really loved the way this cooktop looked, but it wasn't until I used it for the first time that I realized the burners were in the wrong place! The front right burner is the biggest and most powerful. The other front burner is the smallest, best for simmering. The two middle size burners are in the back! So I'm cooking bacon on the big burner, and frankly the BTU's are too high so I have to push it to one of the back medium size burners. Then I cook scrambled eggs and clearly the little burner in the front left is too small, and the big one on the front left is too powerful, so guess what? Yep, had to cook on the back medium size burner. Who designs these cooktops???? I think the smallest burner should be in the back, with at least one medium size burner in the front. So I'm not sure that I'll keep this model. It really is beautiful, but not realistic for my cooking needs. And yes, the fans are too powerful. It literally sucks the flame toward the fan when the fan is on low. I think this is probably problematic for all gas cooktops with built-in downdrafts.

Jenn-Air 30" Downdraft disappointment

The quality of this cooktop's features were dramatically overshadowed by the problems with the fan on this unit.  Former Jenn-Air models had a variable-speed fan that could be reduced to a level that wouldn't distort the burners.  The fan speeds on this unit are too high, and so undifferentiated, that it is totally impractical to cook with ANY fan speed.  Manufacturer sent out a serviceman twice in an attempt to increase resistance, but the three fan speeds are just too high to allow the burners to do what they were designed to do.  Until the manufacturer corrects this problem, this is a poor gas cooktop choice, regardless of the high BTUs on one burner.

Sears treats you right.

The Jenn-Air Cook Top I have also has a grill attahed and is gas. I love my Jenn-airmore than anyother stove I've ever owned. It is easy to operate and to clean. I would tell anyone looking for a new cook top or stove to go with a Jenn-Air and purchase it from Sears.  When we built our new home that was the one thing I had said I wanted to get was a Jenn-Air and Sears was one of the places that I priced them at and they had the best price. I love, love, love my Jenn-Air and Sears store in Mexia.  Thanks Bobby for all your help in picking my appliances.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
