When I bought my Jenn Air the computer, which controls the oven and clock went out after 1 yr. After 1 yr the warr. is parts only. Anyway, I paid $75 for a tech to tell me the comp. needed to be replaced(duh) and Jenn Air covered the cost of the comp $826. The replacement part was on back order and after 4 months of not having an oven they sent me a new one, because the replacement part was not avail. Anyway, my new Jenn Air is getting ready to have its 2nd computer replaced after 2 yrs. I have to pay for a tech and labor again. After reading several reviews on other sites, this is a common problem with this stove. I should not have to pay $200/yr to repair a new stove and then pay $1000/yr in the 5th yr when the warranty expires.
When the oven/stove works, it is great and really like the functionality. Unfortunately it is exorbitantly priced for the quality. Less than 6 months old and the electronics blew.... fortunately the burners were unaffected, but no stove. 1 week before Thanksgiving and neither Jenn-Air service, nor the local repair center can say if the part is in stock. Too bad this is the only downdraft model on the market.... Why doesn't a reputable manufacturer make one ?

We bought this range about 10 years ago when we built our house. We didn't even consider other brands because my sister had one and we really liked it. We have been plagued with repairs and disappointment ever since. The oven door has never hung right and leaks heat, despite three repairs. Now we have two broken burners; they only stay on high and burn everything. The stove is pretty and the downdraft works well, but if you're any sort of a cook, this range isn't going to serve you well. We are huge cooks and are now looking at expensive adaptations to our kitchen to avoid having to buy this stove again. It's the only electric downdraft sold in America. The Jenn Air brand is definitely not what it used to be.
Bought this stove to replace an older Jenn-Air that lasted for 25 years without a single problem. Soon discovered that the quality has gone downhill. The burners on my stove burned out at least five times in the last six years. Had to replace a switch twice within 60 days, the second time it shorted it blew out the burner as well. The switch was under warranty but the burner was not. Jenn-air refused to cover the damage. When the next expensive repair comes up I will consider buying a new stove (definitely not a Jenn-air) rather than pour more money into this black hole.
We have had 3 Jen Air reanges. That is quite a few for 15 years. When we bought the house, there was a Jen Air downdraft in the kitchen and it is in a place where we could not install a hood. After replacing two Jen-Air ranges, we are now on our third. We had to replace the door because the hinges self destructed. Even after a new door, the door will not close fully. Now, the digital control panel will not function which means we cannot use the oven. Replacement parts are availible for $987. This time, we decided that we are going to remodel our kitchen so we do not have to use a downdraft. Look Jen-Air up in consumer reports and you will find that it has the lowest rating of any brand of appliance.
This is our second JennAir. We like the downdraft feature as our kitchen was built with a downdraft oven in mind. The first JennAir had control panel problems but it was not electronic so we were able get by (the bell that signaled the end of the oven cycle kept ringing. I just disconnected it.) The second JennAir we have had 3 years and have put 4 electronic control panels on it. The last panel lasted one week. If you buy a JennAir, get an extended warranty contract as you likely will need it. Stove looks great and cooks great but you cannot depend on the electronics.
I love my new stove. It's replaced a JennAir that was 25 years old. The stove heats up quickly & can use a lower setting vs the old stove. Before when I'd turn a burner on, didn't mean it came on. The top is so much easier to clean, just use baking soda, Bar Keepers Friend or the sample of cook top cleaner. Once cleaned, use a dry cloth to buff the top . We had to buy a separate back splash, too bad this didn't have a light, the old one did. And the oven on this new one is larger than the old one, which I really love. I can use commercial size pans in the oven. And bake mulitple racks of yeasted breads and cookies and not be crowded. Since I've had the convection oven before, won't be without it now. There are 2 timers on the front, which are great. I did have a time at first, accidently "cancelling" the oven, instead of actually turning the timer off. It's nice since there are 10 minute increments and 1 minute increments for the timer. Have not tried the broiler out yet.
This is, unfortunately, the only down draft range on the market. The down draft is insufficient. It does not have enough suction, and the fan is very noisy. Lots of cooking smoke goes up in the ceiling. In my opinion, it needs a range hood or else cooking grease will settle on the walls and ceiling. Also, it is very easy to accidentally turn on the burners, by leaning on or brushing against the knobs. Although there is an push-in feature, it is not working very well. Programming is not an easy task either. Installation of the blower is very difficult. It is not enough room underneath. I would not recommend this range.

I needed a replacement with a downdraft and this was the only one in existence unless I wanted to invest a couple thousand dollars more. Don't like the dark gray background in the display area but I'm growing to love the convection oven. The irony is I had to purchase it for the downdraft and it barely sucks in steam! Why is this the only choice on the market? It's aggravating.
I like it very much but wished the installer had taken time out to explain all the features. He did couple to the features but other parts as it is so different from Jenn-air I had before I needed to read the instructions over and over to feel carefree to operate it. I still have not yet figured out how to use the probe.
